ABSTRACT

To ensure the continuation of education despite the disruption caused by the CoVid-

19 pandemic, the traditional method of instruction was replaced by modular and online

methods. Existing researches that compare traditional to modular and traditional to online

were not sufficient enough to identify the difference between the two modalities in Math

and Science subject and with respect to students’ sex. The purpose of this quasi-

experimental research design was to identify the significant difference between the two

learning modalities, modular and online in terms of students’ performance in Math and

Science subjects. Furthermore, the researchers also examined the difference between the

two learning modalities in terms of students’ sex. The data were collected from 130 grade

6 students (77 modular and 53 online) through the Bayan Luma II Elementary School

teachers’ record. To test the hypothesis, frequency, percentage, mean, one-way and two-

way ANOVA, and Welch test were utilized to analyze the data gathered. The findings

revealed a significant difference between the two learning modalities in terms of students

Math and Science grades where online learners performed significantly better. Contrarily,

sex does not have any significant interaction in the learning modalities. Thus, the researcher

concluded that online learning is more effective as a learning medium and could help

improve students’ achievement in Math and Science than modular learning. Furthermore,

since the results show no significant interaction, student’s performance in Math and

Science may be fully brought by the learning methods.
