Explain the following challenges in teaching literature in ELT classroom.

TEXT SELECTION

One of the most important topics in teaching reading is text selection, the process by
which teachers choose what their students will read. Sometimes there have issues
and challenges in teaching reading text in ELT classroom such as de-contextualized
reading text, difficult vocabulary, difficult level of text, lack of motivation to read, no
reading habit excessive use of bottom up approach and etc. Text must be interesting
topics to the learners to get there attention.

LINGUISTICS DIFFICULTY

Some students struggling with reading comprehension because, some of their

learning material/text and strategy are not appropriate to their level. That’s why many
students are not willing or doesn’t have interest in reading. They not be aware or
they can’t understand what they are reading all about. And that’s the reason why the
learners cannot focusing well, because from the start of the context they are not
interested.

LENGTH

Long text may be get boring from the audience/student and sometimes It loses the
desire to listen and read. And long text can extended longer of time which is not right
or good, especially in our new generations. The more consuming of time the more
student get bored.

CULTURAL DIFFICULTY

Learning a language is never easy, especially difficulties related to language can be

compounded in the context. Text should not be so culturally to feel them ease and
they can understand well. Cultural difficulties is the main problem and challenging
part of a students wherever they go.

CULTURAL APPROPRIACY

Learners should not be offended by textual content. We all known that we are
different each other, different in many ways like cultures and religions. Once the
student are offended they will get hurt. That’s why we need to know where he/she
came from, checked their backgrounds, religions and their culture they belong. And
then we must to respect them.
