The patient feels worried and depressed about her current condition because she could not help
in any little responsibility at home. She is knowledgeable about the importance of taking her
maintenance medications to prevent the worsening of her condition. . The patient believes that
her illness is not a joke and believes that a person who went through it may not recover fully and
be able to go back to their normal lives. The patient’s daughter is also worried with her condition.
The daughter is the one taking care of the patient and would always give advice to her to show
her support and concern. The husband has accepted the condition of the patient and would work
even harder to support the patient financially. And the family would remain hopeful to receive
support from relatives and the church for financial aid and spiritual comfort.

Assessment of Impact of Illness

Since her unfavorable circumstance, there has been a change in the roles and responsibilities in the
patient’s family. Her only daughter would stay at home to attend to all her needs and her husband has
to work away from her to have a better salary for financial support. The patient thinks that her illness
would cause financial problems in her family because she would need a lot of maintenance medications.
Because of these, she would oftentimes feel sorry and have self-pity. Their family has a history of
Diabetes and Hypertension although she doesn’t believe that her family members would contract her
illness. The patient’s husband and daughter have good health status.
