Although air pollution from ships does not have direct cause and effect with oil spill accident, it

causes a bigger effect that gives to the overall air problems encountered by people in many areas,

and also affects the natural environment, such acid rain.

MARPOL Annex VI, first adopted in 1997, it limits the air pollutants contained in ships exhaust

gas. MARPOL Annex VI also regulates shipboard releasing any substance from tankers.  

Revisions to the regulations for ozone substance or any substances coming from the ship

especially fuel oil quality were also made with regulations on fuel oil availability added.

In the world of Maritime Industry, there are rules that need to be follow.

On this rule is the Prevention of Air Pollution from Ship which is the Annex VI in Marpol

73/78. It is important to maintain the cleanliness of our air because if we lose our air, we will

also lose our lives. Every individual has the responsibility to care the air to protect the living

things on earth and to keep the lifestyle that we have today. As you read the Annex VI Marpol

73/78, you will see how Maritime Industry care and keep the security of the air but a lot of

individuals disregard the rule. The hardest to engage and even classify in Maritime Industry

regarding air pollution is the substances that a ship released.
