GLOBALIZATION

Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments
of different nations.

CHARACTERISTICS OF GLOBALIZATION:

-There is social mobility of movement of people regardless of reason.


-There is an intensification of interactions
-It is an active process
-Borderless interaction
-Spread of ideas, knowledge, technology, culture, religion, etc.

1.What is Multi-cultural Literacy?

Multi-cultural Literacy consists of the skills and ability to identify the creators of knowledge and their
interests (Banks, 1996), to uncover the assumptions of knowledge to view knowledge from diverse
ethnic and cultural perspective and to use knowledge to guided action that will create a humane and
just world ( Boutte, 2008).
2.What is Global Literacy?

Global literacy is an understanding of how the world is organized and interconnected. It brings
awareness of the possibilities and constraints facing the world's people.

Are complementary approaches with different emphases. The integration of both perspectives is
imperative to develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed for responsible participation in a
democratic society and in a global community in the twenty-first century.
FRAMEWORK FOR EDUCATION ( JAMES BANKS)

1. Content integration- Naturally infuse content relevant to the cultures and backgrounds of your
students in the curriculum.

2. Knowledge design- Discuss and analyze the cultural frames of reference, biases, generalizations and
assumptions, and views.

3. Prejudice reduction- students develop appreciation and understanding of other cultures by


recognizing negative stereotypes.

4. Equity pedagogy- teachers plan their lessons using various instructional strategies that are beneficial
to diverse cultures.

MULTICULTURAL CURRICULUM APPROACHES


1. Contributions- cultural heroes and ethnic artifacts are added to the curriculum during holidays, and
specific lessons.

2. Additive- In-depth content, themes and, and perspectives are added to the curriculum without
making change.

3. Transformation- the curriculum is changed (transformed) in a way that focuses on the perspectives of
diverse cultures.

4. Social action- curriculum allows, for students to recognize vital social issues, and take action to solve
these issues.

What is Global Education?UNESCO defines global education:


• As a goal to become aware of educational conditions or lack of it, in developing countries worldwide
and aim to educate all peoples to a certain world standards.
Global Education promotes:

• Social justice and human rights


• Sustainable futures

• Identity and cultural diversity

• Interdependence and globalization
