ANALYSIS:

This is Now Magazine. It is a gossip related magazine that mostly attract women because it
primarily talks about celebrities exclusive information and gossips such as relationships, fashion
tips and lifestyle. This magazine is discussing about the dramas between celebrities regarding with
their relationship and others such as tips to get rid of acne and tips on how to lose weight. The
writing style or language used are straightforward it really shows the contents of the magazine,
with the simplicity of the taglines make the audience to understand the contents easily.

1. What is done to make the cover interesting?

: Cover line in this magazine are in large size font and some are in capital letters. This is
used to highlight the main importance of the story and it stands out on the front cover
because it is in a colored text which is in pink this will most likely grab people’s attention.

2. How are colors and fonts used to meet genre/audience?

: Fonts used here are more simple compared to male magazine. But its in larger fonts so it
will attract more women’s attention. The colors used here is very colorful, it uses lots of
bright colors such as pink, blue and yellow, this is some of the colors use as a
representation of females.

3. How are images used to meet genre/audience

: Images used here are mostly women so this will most likely attract women or young
teenage girls. The images used here fits the genre gossip because you can see from the
expression of the celebrities which tells the audience that there is drama.The images also
gives the audience a sneak peek of what is inside the magazine this will make the
consumers to buy the magazine and read in order to find out more information about the
gossips.

4. What topic are covered that the target audience will find interesting?
: Topic covered here is mostly to be dramas between celebrities such as you can see on top
right corner where it says “Charlotte dumps Gaz”. Other than that this magazine also put
tips on how to lose weight or to lose belly fat.

5. What language devices are used to attract the audience/ meet the genre
: It uses some informal or personal pronouns such as “ I’m and me”. It also uses some
persuading words to persuade the audience that the magazine is the source of celebrities
secrets.
EXTENSION: Do you feel that this magazine cover is effective? why or why not?

: I think it is effective because it contains informations/topic or news that suits the genre which is
gossip. It also shows different images of celebrities which make the targeted audience to buy the
magazine. It also have appropriate fonts and colors such as pink and yellow which are colors that
represent females. Lastly it also contain relevant taglines or straplines which give some of the
highlights of the magazine, this will furthermore make the audience to want to buy and read them
.

ASSESSING: (GOLD, SILVER, BRONZE)

I would give it a silver because for presentation the magazine use the appropriate color and fonts
that suits with the target audience which are females. The celebrities used in the front cover is
relevant to the needs and interest of the targeted audience but some if the facial expressions is not
suitable with the topic for example “Charlotte dumps Gaz” image used is a picture of Charlotte
using bikini and smiling this makes it look like she is modeling or advertising the bikini that she
uses.

For subject matter I think the topic discussed is suitable with the genre which is gossip. It also
contains straplines that will attract the customers or the targeted audience.

For language it is very straightforward it shows the highlights of the magazine, this will allow the
audience to understand more and it will make them to buy the magazine to get more information.
It uses some informal or personal pronouns such as “i’m and me”.
