Portfolio/ePortfolio Task #3 – Reflection Paper

#05 Ape, Bon Krian Sulmaca – Polaris 1A

Being raised in three distinct towns during my childhood—Lapuz, Jaro, and

Pavia—made for an unique childhood. I am exposed to and have adopted other cultures,
traditions, behaviors, and ways of thinking as a result.

My family, neighborhood, community, and school all helped me as I grew up to learn how to
speak and communicate in my native language. In addition, I learned slang from those around
me, developed my spiritual views thanks to my family, learned how to interact socially from my
peers and friends, and learned how to play traditional games like "Tumba Patis" when I was
younger. As I grew, I also developed these traits while also learning new, fascinating things. In
this case, I learned various cultural beliefs through observations such as how to play traditional
games, the way we pray, and good etiquette. I learned how to speak and act not only from
guidance from others but also through personal observation of the surroundings. For example,
Basketball may have simple rules yet there are " street rules" that must be observed since our
community has different "street rules" from the standard basketball that's why through
observation I adopt the "street rules" from our community play efficiently with this situation I
basically conserve our culture. Language-wise, I also notice that various mixed languages, such
Hiligaynon, Karay'a, Cebuano, and Bisaya, are spoken in my community. As a result, I am
exposed to speaking these native languages when I interact with other people. One of the key
characteristics that distinguishes the Filipino people is their "pamahi'in," which we adopt from
our ancestors' "sabe-sabe" and believe will bring us luck or good fortune.

Currently, I'm still learning things not only in education but also in cultural beliefs, I conserve
and treasure all essential beliefsthat can help me develop personally and rid myself of some
toxic ones so that I can end the stigma associated with harmful cultural beliefs.
