Activity 2: Choosing Snorkeling Equipment

Situation: You are going to snorkel for the first time and you were also given
a budget by your parents to buy all the necessary equipment for snorkeling.
You went to the sports store and saw so many choices of masks, snorkel, and
fins.
Questions:
1. How will you choose your mask?
2. What features will you be looking for? Why?
3. What kind of fin will you be buying and why?

When choosing my mask, I would like to see its functions both the
necessary ones and those which might have additional features, of course,
something which is durable and something which fits my face perfectly. Since
having a size different than mine might cause some problems with breathing,
pressure, and seal of the mask onto my face. Other masks might be the
newest or best-selling but the best way is to find something which fits me
perfectly to prevent water leaking in and causing my mask to fog up, and
decrease my chances of mishaps and energy consumption. Moreover, silicone
masks are more durable than rubber ones so I prefer to buy those. Visibility
and decreased fog lens so that I am able to see my surroundings clearly and
prepare to snorkel with little time. For a snorkel, I think I’ll look for something
with a lip guard to prevent the salt water from getting into my mouthpiece
plus something that fits the shape of my mouth so that it won’t put too much
stress on my jaw. For the fins, of course, being a good fit is already given, I
would try some in a store and walk around in them to see that they are not
too loose to fall off and not too tight to cut my skin. Moreover, I think flexibility
combined with strength is a way to show a great fin. Overall, these are the
things which I would look for when buying equipment for snorkeling.
