& RAAT we TECHNICAL MANUAL ee FOR a FREQUENCY RESPONSE OF R-L-C CIRCUIT (SERIES AND PARALLEL) a PREMIER TRADING CORPORATION FREQUENCY RESPONSE OF R-L-C CIRCUIT (SERIES AND PARALLEL) | GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE BOARD Frequency Response of R-L-C circuits, (Series and Parallel) :- Can be drawn on this experimental kit, Effects of circuit resistance and in such a fashion 50 that the complete frequency response of series and parallel R-L-C circuits lies in audio frequency range. This | facility provides the use of ordinary audio frequency oscillator for performing the experiment. E Good quality iron cored have been used in making the coils for series and parallel R-L-C ireuits, In each circuit there are two coils, two resistors and three capacitors. With these | components, various frequency responses for different combinations of R-L-C can be drawn on the board. ‘The layout on the board is quite spread out to facilitate convenient working and clear understanding. Stackable patch cords, suitable to the terminals, are supplied with the board for | easy interconnections and longer working life of the terminals. A print of the panel layout is given in the manual, PRI XPERIMENT PREPARATION j Frequency response of R-L-C circuits has many applications, based on its frequency selection property, impedance transformation ete. in electrical/electronics field. When we tune a radio or a television receiver to a particular station, then the signals of other stations are rejected hy the receiver. Actually, the receiver does this work through the use of the frequency selection property of the R-L-C circuits. This frequency selection property of the R-L-C circuits is commonly known as resonance. Different stations transmit at different frequencies so we adjust the components of resonant circuit to select the frequency of a desired station and reject all others. Further, these circuits are also used to transform the impedances so that the load and generator impedances are matched for maximum power transfer. Electrical circuits are the combination of R, L and C elements. This combination could either be a series connection or a parallel connection. We shall study the frequency response of both types of circuits. Fig.-I’ shows the general frequency response characteristics of R-L-C circuit, It can be seen that the response is maximum at a frequency fo, called the resonant fi The decreases on both sides of this frequency. Thus the circuit selects 0 iving them a preferential treatment which is the basis of selection of a IER TRADING CORPORATION ECT -p Sel Wlobisialthe frequency rearense cotya orn series R-L-C circui for various values of ()R and (ii) L/C ratio and to calculate Q factor for each case, To obtain the frequency response curve for a parallel ReL-C: circuit and 19 obtain the impedance/line current Vs, frequency characteristics, ® Or Experimental kit on Frequency Response of RLC Circuits, AC Millivoltmeter. AF Generator ~ A general purpose CRO. RECAUTIONS () Ground of AF generator and CRO/AC Millivoltmeter should be common in the circuit. AC millivoltmeter should be connected across the component whose one terminal is connected to ground, The output voltage of most of signal generators will not remain constant when loaded by a resonant circuit. The generator output level must be adjusted to a constant level for each voltage measurement, ROCEDURE (4) Study the layout of the board taking help of panel drawing. For series R-L-C circuit, istors RI and R2, two coils LI and 1.2 and three capacitors C1, C2 and C3, srraepnents, different series R-L-C circuits can be assembled. Similarly, for parallel © resistors, two inductors and three capacitors are given. One more i nds 10 R« of Fig.‘6" is provided. The voltage across this resistor gives the -€ circuit.
