Triangle Constructions Menu

Learning to create constructions is an essential part of Geometry, but you get to choose which
constructions to create. Below is a menu of choices. Each choice has an associated point value.
Choose any combination of activities so that the total is 25.

Create a table for your constructions, see example below. Using a compass* and a ruler, complete the
constructions of your choice. The marks and labels should be clear and use color where appropriate. In
the second column describe each step and why it was necessary.

*You can get a compass at any grocery store or dollar store or create your own (find the website)

1. Draw Point A’
2. Using the compass
measure the length of
AB.
3. Determine the
location for Point B’ by
place one end of the
compass on point A’
then create a small
arc with the compass
set to the length of
AB. Draw Point B’
along the arc.
4. Open the compass to
the length of AC.
5. Place the point of the
compass on A’, in the

6. Measure the length of
CB by opening the
compass to the
length.
7. Beginning with the
compass on point B’,
draw an arc in the
direction of where C’
should be.
8. Draw point C’ at the
intersection of the two
arcs.
9. Using a straight edge
connect A’C’, C’B’ and
A’B’.
