Appreciation

We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to all those

who gave us the possibility to complete this project and report. A special
thanks to our biology teacher, Mr. Shairul who helped us by encouraging
and guiding throughout this project.
We would also like to thank our parents who stood by us to complete
the project. They provided us with enough funds to buy needed materials to
complete the terrarium.
Lastly, we would express our gratitude to our fellow classmates who
had helped us in understanding the project better.

Introduction
What is a terrarium? A terrarium is a miniature garden housed in containers
like bottles and jars. It's like an aquarium, but just plants instead of water
and fish. These days terrariums are used for much the same thing. They’re
perfect for people who love the natural world, but live in the city with no
garden and little space for plants. It's also useful for people who’d like a
collection of exotic plants that require very little maintenance.

Objective
• To learn the different adaptations of plants in different habitats.
• To learn the basic techniques on how to do a terrarium.
• To learn to create and make our own miniature, portable garden.
• To promote the use of terrariums in this modern world.
• To encourage this generation to plant plants even if it's in a small,
confide place.
Materials
Soil, charcoal, gravel, stone, 20 cm³ water and plants (used plants are Devils
Ivy and Philodendron).

Apparatus
Scissors, glass jar, plastic container, forceps, spray bottle and a dry cloth.

Procedure
1) Clean a glass jar and dry it using a dry cloth.
2) Prepare gravel, soil and charcoal in plastic containers.
3) Place a layer of gravel at the bottom of the glass jar.
4) Next, arrange a layer of pieces of activated charcoal.
5) Following, place a layer of soil and then flatten and even it out.
6) Cut the plants in appropriate size and place it gently into the glass
container using forceps.
7) Place a few stones and mosses around the plants.
8) Lastly, fill in a spray bottle with water and spray it onto the plants.
Safety Measures
1) Careful when cutting plants to their appropriate size.
2) Wear safety eye goggles when placing sand into the container as it
can enter our eyes when wind is blown.
3) Wear gloves when handling the materials to maintain cleanliness and
to prevent hands from getting dirty.

Estimated Cost
1) Plants - RM 0
2) Soil - RM 0
3) Gravel - RM 0
4) Charcoal - RM 5
5) Stone - RM 0
6) Moss - RM 0
7) Glass jar - RM 10
8) Plastic containers - RM 0
9) Water - RM 0

Conclusion
In conclusion, terrariums are easy to make and doesn’t cost much to make.
It’s also a great alternative for gardens, which would take up a lot of space.
Terrariums don’t take up much space and its portable too. Terrariums can
be kept anywhere in the house, even on the nightstand in the bedroom.
Also, terrariums can be used as decorations in the house.
