7 Discussion Questions

1. Why is it important that organizations continue to recruit job candidates actively even
after they have applied?

 It’s important for organizations to continue to recruit because we know the

purpose of recruitment is to generate and maintain the interest of potential
employees. Recruiting helps a firm build a stable and talented group of
employees who contribute to its mission and business strategy. It’s the job of
recruiting to keep the candidate interested in pursuing the opportunity with the
organization until they are removed from further consideration or hired for
work. The effects of an organization’s actions and reputation on applicant
attraction begin before an organization ever advertises an open position and
continue after the position is filled.

2. If you wanted to request funding from your CEO to evaluate and improve the quality
of your company’s recruiters, how would you persuade him or her that doing so
would be a good investment?

 The recruiter is generally the first contact of a company for a prospective

employee and is the main point of contact between the potential employee and
the company. The recruiter helps guide the potential employee through the
entire recruiting/hiring process.
 If the recruiter’s recruiting skills are not at the top of their game, then the
potential employee and the company could lose out on a valuable asset for the
company. Allowing for a more effective recruiter training program ensures
that a company’s recruiters are the best all-around and should have no
problem locating the perfect talent for its company.
 Investing in the recruiters training will allow the recruiters to keep each
potential employee interested in the company and will increase in a positive
return that will bring productive new hires to the company.

3. What recruiter characteristics matter to you when you are applying for a job? Why?
Which do not matter much or at all? Why not?

 The recruiter characteristics that matter most to me when applying for a job
would be the familiarity with the job and organization; a recruiter should be
able to explain or talk about the organization without any problems. Good
communication skills and social skills are important to me; having those skills
allows me to understand information more accurately and quickly. It also
reduces misunderstanding and confusion. Trustworthiness within a recruiter is
the biggest thing that matters because I should be able to trust that a recruiter
is being honest with me about a potential opportunity and have the chance to
build a relationship. The race or sex of a recruiter doesn’t matter to me at all
as long as they possess the other basic desirable recruiter characteristics,
which include intelligence, credibility, self-confidence, and good listening
skills.

4. Does an organization’s image or its brand as an employer affect its attractiveness to

you as an employee or a potential employee? What elements of its brand matter the
most to you? Why?

 The image and brand of an organization can have a major impact on the
employment decision of people. The more favorable a company’s image, the
more people are likely to consider the organization attractive as an employer
and state a willingness to respond to its recruitment advertisements. An
organization that brands itself on employee satisfaction is a something that
attracts me. An organization that where employees are given a chance to be
heard, learn, and apply new skills is major. Respecting employees and
creating a healthy work environment is the most important.

5. What could a recruiter do to interest you in applying for a company you have never
heard of before? What tactics or information might persuade you to apply?

 A recruiter could give a well detailed explanation of what the company is

about and the things they are planning on accomplishing in the upcoming
future. The recruiter should be able to explain the benefits in joining the
company as well as its work environment. A company with great benefits
and an excellent work environment is one that is more likely to draw my
attention. Showcasing the company’s culture, values, and its vision is the
biggest tactic in recruiting potential employees for a company. Job
personalization is another big factor in persuading me into joining a
company, I would love to work in a company where I could personalize my
hours and opportunities.
