With the grim reality that we have in this world where there are a lot of social
issues that plagues not only the community that we are in but also the whole world such
as corruption, poverty, discrimination, pollution, these are all the reasons why as
individuals and future entrepreneurs, we should do our best to do more for the
community instead of just focusing on our self-interests and at the end of the day, after
we do these good deeds, we can at least make the world a better place to live in even
though it will only contribute a small percentage which is alright because these good
deeds that we do will create a “snowball effect” where other people will realize or
become inspired towards the good deeds that we do and hopefully, the people who
might attempt to do evil deeds might think twice and decide that what they do will just
harm and worsen the problems much more.
This is where Social Entrepreneurship through volunteering comes in since it will
help us in becoming inspired to become volunteers through social entrepreneurship
means and also on how we will apply the aspect of volunteering through our own
businesses.
In my case, when we had our volunteering activity in the Hospicio de San Jose,
what we did there was that we donated some of our items and spend time with them.
Back then I realized that we are fortunate enough to have our parents even if some of
us have parents are working in other countries as OFWs, or if they are divorced which is
still not too bad compared to not having parents at all. Another event was when we went
to a school in Zambales for an immersion activity where we also donated items to the
children there. One more life lesson that I realized was that we are also fortunate not
just because we have parents but also because we have good education in San Beda
University which has enough equipments that it can use at its disposal so that we can
actually learn at school unlike at their school where the teachers have to make use of
limited resources that they have and where they have to use more of their creativity so
that they would be able to teach the children there which makes me more grateful for
the life that I have despite the countless problems and challenges that I face in life
which is small compared to the problems and challenges that the less fortunate people
face in their daily lives.
What I will do when I get my own business and it becomes prosperous and
sustainable enough, I will start a foundation which is connected to my own business and
give back to the less fortunate people which would also be inspired from the videos of
Project Nightfall, Nas Daily, Isko Moreno, and the others since from what I have noticed
their videos gather a lot of attention from the netizens and through this way of
communication, I would be able to inspire a lot of people to do volunteer work too.
Summarily speaking, I myself and the team at the foundation itself will commit to doing
vlog-type videos of volunteering not because we want to make ourselves look good to
the public but because we want others not only to become inspired but also for them to
realize that volunteering is also fun and that it also helps you through spiritual and
psychological manner.
At the end of the day, I hope that I could at the very least, be able to provide
smiles to the less fortunate people and teach them important life skill that we give our
help to them so that they can continue their lives and that someday, they would be able
to eventually get to reap the rewards of their hardwork.
