SELECTION OF SIZE Technical data necessary for selecting the correct size ‘The choice of a suitable type and the determination of the optimum unit size is always reliably possible, if all aspects of the drive, as well as all influences the drive will be exposed to, are carefully considered. Perusal of the following “Technical data* will help greatly in avoiding errors and queries and to ensure a long, efficient and trouble free working life of the speed reducer. Selection of size 1. Mechanical selection The nom. power ratings P, in kW are valid for shook: free operation of 10 hrs/day and up to 6 starts per hour, permitting a starting torque of two times the running torque. Factors f,, f,, fy which correspond to mechanical solicitudes, must be observed for different service conditions. The required power P2,, is corrected and computed with: Py SP, Xf, xf, xf, For the selection of the gear unit size I. Thermal rating Regarding thermal ratings, it is important to check whether the thermal capacity P,, is exceeded by the transmitted power, in which case auxiliary cooling will be required: A check will be necessary to determine if cooling by fan or cooling coil will suffice (thermal capacity P.,.) or if cooling by fan and cooling coil will be required. ‘Some form of cooling will be necessary if the required output power P, exceeds the thermal capacity PG1 without taking into account the factors f, x f, xf, The thermal capacities listed are valid for an ambient temperature of 20 °C and an operating cycle of 100% er hour. Different ambient temperatures (factor f,) and shorter ‘operating cycles (factor f,) should be taken into account. If the maximum listed thermal capacity values are exceeded, an external oil cooler will be necessary. The inlet cooling water temperature should not exceed max. 20 °C. 22 MM. If the reducer or multiplier delivered to the user is not installed immediately, it should be stored in a place free from humidity, rainwater, dust and not exposed to sunlight. In the event of storage of more than four months, follow the instructions detailed in chapter 2, Before operating the reducer, the outside of the seal joint should be lubricated by applying some drops of oil with the help of an oilcan. ‘The oil level in the reducer has to be carefully checked and when oil change takes place, the bearings should be greased, if of greased type. Insufficient greasing causes the quick destruction of the gears and bearings. DELIVERY 1.1 All reducers or multipliers are subject to an idle running test in the test stand to check their correct operation. The test and inspection are carried out in accordance with the technical data of the order. 1.2 Normally, the reducers are delivered without packing, and to prevent them from breaking, ‘the eventual accessories such as manometers, thermostats ete. are disassembled for transportation. 13. The reducers are delivered without oil. If the reducer has greasing points lubricated by thick grease, these will leave the factory already lubricated. 14 Unless otherwise stated in the order, the reducers are delivered with a paint adequate for installation in a sheltered place, but NOT for being exposed to rain water or water spatters. LS The inlet and output shafts are impregnated with anticorrosive varnish. For its elimination, saltpeter solution or another suitable solvent is to be used. By no means should sandpaper be used. 1.6 The outside and the unpainted inside of the parts are prepared for normal transportation conditions and for a storage period of 4 months maximum. If otherwise required, it must be ordered accordingly. 2. STORAGE 2.1 If the reducer is to be stored or installed but not operated for a period of more than 4 months after delivery, the following conservation procedure has to be followed: 2.1.1 Reducers with the inlet and output shaft on the same horizontal plane: Fill the reducer with the oil type shown on the reducer characteristics plate, until the oil level ensures that all bearings are covered. On the other reducer types as per the catalogue: Fill up to 50 mm beyond the level. 2.1.2 The reducer should be idle operated, manually or motor driven, for 15 minutes to ensure the distribution of the oil. This operation is to be repeated in accordance with the environment conditions, but never at intervals exceeding two months. 2.2 Upon request of the customer, to be expressly stated in the order, the reducer can be operated with anticorrosive oil in the factory prior to delivery. In accordance with the type of anticorrosive oil chosen, depending on the scheduled storage period, the reducer shall be protected against corrosion for one or two years. It is not necessary to clean the gears of the anticorrosive protection before operating the reducer. 2.3 After every four months of storage, the inlet and output shafts should be cleaned as stated in chapter 1.5, and the anticorrosive protection renewed. 3. FITTING OF COUPLINGS AND OTHER ELEMENTS ON THE SHAFTS 3.1 To fit the coupling, sheaves, toothed wheels etc on both inlet and output shafts, a screwed centering of the shafts shall be used. 3.2 Heat fitting The piece to be fitted should be properly heated until its size allows for its fitting without having to strike it {SOrico CONNECTION EXAMPLES GEAR UNIT TYPE: TTT, WITH LANTERN, COUPLING AND MOTOR 33 34 35 itted to the shaft, A high temperature may damage the gaskets and/or seals, if trans For the pieces to be connected, a key-seat as per DIN-6885 Sheet 1, is generally foreseen. To prevent axial displacement, a hub with pressure screw or similar is to be employed. Under no circumstances should the parts attached to the inlet or output shafts be fitted or disassembled by applying strong blows, since these would damage the bearings, safety ring ete. 4, INSTALLATION 44 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 4.10 4a. 412 413 ‘The reducers should be installed on a rigid and perfectly levelled base. Only the screws indicated on the dimensions sheets should be used for its fastening. ‘The inlet and output shafts must be aligned in a perfectly vertical or horizontal position to guarantee the correct lubrication of the bearings. If a position of installation other than that indicated is required, the details must be expressly stated in the order. When installation is carried out on a concrete surface, the reducer must first be aligned on the anchorage elements. Once it has been aligned with the driving and receiver machine, its foundation may be layed. It is important that the reducer enclosure is prevented from ‘coming into contact with the concrete. After the setting of the concrete, the reducer alignment must be checked and any misalignment should be corrected, For reducers with a toothed pinion incorporated to the outlet. shaft, eventual elastic deformations that might show up in the transmission of the torque, have to be considered for the alignment. In the event that a support is incoporated to the outlet shaft, the maximum care should be paid to its alignment since a misalignment would originate overloads and, as a consequence, the breaking of the bearings or shaft. ‘When using elastic couplings, a perfect alignment will also be necessary. Otherwise, the life of the coupling would be reduced and the reducer damaged. When sheaves are mounted on the shafts, an excessive tension on the transmission belts must be avoided. In case such belts are of the chain type, they should be mounted without previous tensioning. To facilitate the height alignment of the reducer, its legs may be fitted with screwed holes for the use of levelling bolts. For reducers installed on a metallic structure, the latter should be rigid enough as to avoid vibrations that might cause a premature wear. Should the reducer be mounted on a structure or suffer direct influence from external parts, it should be fastened by means of its anchoring bolts and with the help of adjusted pins and lateral chocks to prevent its displacement. The draining plug, level rod, if any, and inspection plug must be mounted in such a way that they are of easy access. For hollow shaft reducers for direct fitting to the machine and with an arm for absorbing the reaction moment of the enclosure, the variation of extending and retracting of this resistant arm has to be considered in order to maintain the reducer in a horizontal position during the torque transmission and to ensure the proper greasing of the gears and bearings. AA rigid fastening of the reducer to the machine or foundation must be avoided by all means, to prevent the bearings of the reducer or of the shaft from breaking,
