Eswara Nadi was said to be the work of one of the greatest Tamil Poet
Agasthiyar. He was also called as ‘Kumbha Muni’ as he was created out of a
pitcher. While writing the Eswara Nadi he created seven ‘Kandams’ or
sections. They are named after the seven planets from Sun to Saturn. There
is no mention of any section for the planets Rahu and Ketu. However, in all
these seven ‘Kandams’ he considers the position of Rahu and Ketu also. The
entire work is written in Tamil language. I have with me all the seven
kandams. The Surya or Sun Khanda has already been translated by me and

The poet has only rarely mentioned the name of the planets in the entire
narration. They are referred to either as per karakatwa, or ownership of the
Bhava with reference to the Lagna in question. Sometimes the poet has taken
aspect of the planet as reference which puts us into difficulty as to where it
can be placed. For instance, in one verse he says if Lagna is aspected by Ayush
karaka – Here Ayush karaka is Saturn. Saturn has 3 aspects –the 3rd, 7th and
the 10th. Now we come into difficulty as to where we should place Saturn.
With my limited knowledge of Astrology, I have tried to give a suitable
placement for such sayings of the Rishi. In the translation part, I have omitted
such references and instead given the position of the planets only. I am also

providing the chart for all the verses in South Indian as well as North Indian
style. Only the planets mentioned

Also, only the first two letters of the planets are given by me in the chart. I
have also given the Tamil verses for each chart. The translation appears below
it.

The 1st part which deals with Aries Lagna

L agna contains 60 charts. Five charts have
been provided for the position of Moon starting from Aries Lagna and ending
in Pisces (being the 12th house for Aries Lagna). Only the planets which have
a bearing on the results are given. Aspects of planets have been given much
importance.

Moon is the Karaka for mother and hence in almost all charts the time of death
of mother of the native of the chart has been stated. In some charts the siblings
of the mother are also given. In few charts native’s death is also mentioned.
Mother’s health, her wealth and fortunes vis -à-vis her family details have also
been mentioned in some of the charts. This is a broad idea of the contents of
the Moon Kanda of Eswara Nadi. Other minor details stated under some of
the charts will be discussed then and there.
