San
Agustin
Church

Found in 1571 and built in 1595, the San Agustin Church is located
at Intramuros, Manila. It is stated the oldest church in the
Philippines that is being iconic to survive strong calamities and
has remarkable features.

The former name of the church is Iglesia de San Pablo. It is stated


that the construction of the church is one of the first religious
establishment of the Spanish in Luzon Philippines.

The picture you can sight at the top is the 3rd renovated Agustin
church you will see today. The first Agustin church is made out of
bamboo, suddenly wood is easily spreads fire easily, resulting the
church to cause fire during a pirate china war. They did re-
construct the building but it caught fire again when a candle tip
over causing the fire to spread all over the church. The admins of
the church finally decided to design or construct the church to be
made out of stone in 1586 by the idea of Huang Garcia. The
construction of the church is slow due to lack of financial support
from the church.

In 1854 it was again renovated due to the war caused by the British
movement. Luciana Oliver take the first step to renovate it, but
in the year 1863 a strong earthquake hit the church, but the church
stays force and remained intact. But in year of 1880, an earthquake
hit the church causing the left bell tower to collapse and remain
missing until today. Also the monastery of the church got totally
destroyed but it was rebuilt by Angel Nakpil.

The church is not only a church, thus it is also a museum. You can
find lot of antique mass equipment’s inside. Statues, Painting,
Hand crafted wall designs, and old musical instrument that is still
enable to play until today like the Pipe Organ made in 18th century.
