CHAPTER III

The research methodology, demographic frame and sample,

respondent description, research instrument, data collection

process, and statistical analysis of the data are all further

described by the author.

RESEARCH METHOD AND DESIGN/S

A descriptive survey design was the study technique

employed to collect the necessary data. Apparently, Scribbr

(2019), its objective is to precisely and analytically describe a

population, situation or phenomenon; it can answer what, when,

where, when and how questions, but not why questions. A

descriptive research design uses a variety of quantitative and

qualitative methods to examine one or more variables. This

method is a suitable choice when the research aim is to identify

characteristics, frequencies, trends, correlations, and categories.

In this study, the researcher used questionnaires to collect the

data from the population needed for the study

POPULATION FRAME AND SAMPLE

The population frame and sample of population in

Calbayog City were traced from the Philippine Statistic Authority

Report. It showed that there are 186,960 people in Calbayog

City. In solving the population frame and sample’s effectivity, the

proponent used the Slovin’s formula to achieve the sample

population. The researcher’s level of confidence is 93% and to

compute for the margin of error, just subtract the confidence

level from 1.

e=1-92%= 0.08

For this survey a margin of error of 0.07 is considered

sufficiently accurate

n=N/1+Ne2

n= 186,960/1 + 186,960
(0.08)2

n= 156 people

Where

n = number of people that is needed

N = total population of Calbayog City

e = margin of error

The survey therefore needs to include 156 people

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONDENTS

In this study the target respondents that participated in

this survey were: First, the residence of Calbayog city who are

the major beneficiary and user of the proposal whose age are

ranging from 13 and above, which is composed of local artist

and local audience of every cultural events in the city

respectively; teenagers, young adults, adults and elderliesThe

reason behind why the researcher limited the participants with

that particular age group was because this population were the

ones who commonly use this kind of project.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The research instrument used was books,magazines,

websites,electronic books,related thesis works and research-

made self-report questionnaire. Questionnaires are well-known

and widely-used research method because they are cheap, do

not require as much effort and often have standardized answers

which makes compiling data simple and easy. Answers obtained

through questionnaire samples are vital information which are

normally examined or understood, letting the researchers to

come up with a solution or assumption to the research being

conducted. Such solutions or assumptions are often used by

diverse fields to deliver answers to the most issues, problems

and questions.

There is a huge significance of questionnaire in this

study, because of this instrument the researcher can ask the

respondents questions that are related to the project’s design

and composition that will be gathered then analyzed to create a

suitable architectural solution in the problem stated in this study.

The researcher used a mix of close-ended questions like likert

scale and checklist type multiple choice questions; The likert

scale question that the researcher used measures the variations

of likehood, where “Definitely Yes” is the highest (5), next is the

“Probably” (4), on the middle is the “Possibly” (3), second to the

last is the “Probably Not” (2), and lastly “Definitely Not” which

has the lowest scale value (1). While in the checklist type, it

expects the respondents to make choices from the many options

that have been stated, the respondent must only choose one

answer per questions.

DATA-GATHERING PROCEDURE

The Primary procedure was to create an online

questionnaire using Google form and posting it in a group where

most of the members are mostly from Calbayog city. The

second procedures are reading culture & history of calbayog,

theories,principles and building technologies found in books,

magazines, elecronic books and website.
