 Gather statistical data.
 Describe different methods of collecting data.
 Appreciate different methods of collecting data in real-life situation.

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Preliminary Activities

Good Morning class! Good Morning Ma’am!

Let’s all stand for the opening prayer. (the students will stand and pray)
Beverly, please lead the prayer.

Good Morning again, before taking your (the students will clean their places)
seat, kindly pick up the pieces of trash on
your places.
Jamaica, who is absent today? None Ma’am!

Very Good!

Review of the Past Lesson

In our previous topic can you recall other (the student will raised their hands)
name of variable?

Yes, Alexisse? The other name for variable is data.

What is Data? Data are information, files or records.

That’s right!

Motivation

Are you ready for our exciting activity Yes Ma’am!

today?

Each of you will be given a piece of colored

paper. You are going to jot down the
answers to the question given to you. I want
you to know more about your classmates by
asking them the following.

1. What is your favorite Drink?

2. Favorite place you have been?
3. Favorite celebrity?
4. Your hobby?
5. Your crush in the classroom?

Each of you must ask 4 of your classmates.

You may ask your classmates around your
circle. I will give you three minutes to do
your activity, after three minutes you have
to post your answers on the board. I will
randomly choose a paper and the owner of
that paper will read the answers in front of
the class.

Is that clear? Yes, Ma’am

Okay, you may now stand and start doing (the students will actively do the activity)
your activity.
(the teacher will facilitate)

After three minutes….. (the student will stop doing their activity)
TIME’S UP!!!

Now, I will randomly select a paper posted (the student will read the answers written
here and the luckiest person will read the on the paper)
answer in front.

Who among you can describe about the (the student will raised their hands)
things that you did in the activity?

Yes, Keeno? In our activity, we collaborate with our

classmates by asking what are their favorite
drink, place, celebrity, hobby and crush in
the room.

Very good Keeno!

In the activity, how will you represent their They served as the information that we

crush in the room?

In other words, These are the data that you

need to know.

Is that clear? Yes Ma’am!

Now, in the activity given to you, how will They served as the source of information
you represent your classmates as part of that we gathered in the activity.
the activity?

Exactly! Your classmates or all of you

served as the source of information that you
gathered.

Any question so far? None Ma’am

Lastly, how will you represent yourself as Each of us served as a collector of the
part of the activity? activity.

That’s right, Because in the activity you

have done awhile ago, your task is to collect
or gather information from your classmates.
In statistics, based on the activity, you can
call yourself as the researchers who gather
or collect data from any sources.
Yes Ma’am!
Do you understand class?

Lesson Proper
Collection of Data
Now, based from our activity, what do you
think is our topic for today?

This is the first step in a statistical study.

The success of a study depends on accurate
data. To get an accurate data, we must know
the right sources and the appropriate
method of collecting data.
Yes Ma’am!
Do you follow class?

We have different method of collecting data.

(the student will watched the video)
(the teacher will show pictures/video of the
two kinds of interview)
They are interviewing.
From the videos that you have watched, can
you describe what they are doing?
To other person.
In the first video who are they talking with?

Right! When an interviewer personally

interviews the respondent it is called Direct
interview.
To other person also but using a telephone.
Can you describe the second video? Whom
they are talking with?

Very good! When an interviewer uses

telephone to interview the respondent it is
called Indirect Interview.
Yes Ma’am!
Do you understand it class?
(the student will observed the pictures)
(the teacher will post pictures of
questionnaires) List of questions.
What can you observe?
Correct! So the second method is called Questionnaire is a list of well-planned
Questionnaire Method. Kindly read questions written on paper, which can be
definition of questionnaire method, Yes either personally administered or mailed by
Faith? the researcher to the respondents.

As you can see Biodata and Test Questions

are example of Questionnaire Method
because they contain list of questions that
can help us to collect data.

Did you get it class? Yes Ma’am!

What are our five senses kindly enumerate? Sense of sight, touch, hearing, smell and
taste.
So when a method is obtaining a data using
our five senses it is called Observation
Method.

(show a video using observation method)

In the video it is clearly discussed that we

can acquire data by using our five senses.

Any questions so far? None Ma’am!

Let’s proceed to the next method. (the student will observe the logos)
(the teacher show logos of government
agency)

Where can you see those logos? In the government offices.

Correct! These are agencies that can help This method of collecting data is governed
us to collect data. Kindly read the definition by laws. It is use by researchers who make
of the next method. Yes, Khaye? use of vital statistics such as birth rates,
list of registered voters, and the like.

The fourth method of collecting data is

governed by laws which called Registration
Method. For example we want to know the
number of jeepneys around a region then
we can ask data from LTFRB because this
agency provides the list of registered
jeepneys.

Do you follow class? Yes Ma’am!

(the teacher will post pictures related to (the student will observe the pictures)
research)

Can you describe the first photo shown? Students are studying inside the
How about for the second photo? library. Student surfing the internet.

Correct! What are the activities you are Reading Books,

doing inside the library that you can also do Studying
while surfing the internet? lesson, Research

Excellent! So the last method is the Information gathered from records, files or
Research Method. It is defined as, kindly publication.

Application
Students will identify the following methods
of collecting data use in the situation.
1. In barangay San Isidro, there were
students who were assigned to ask
every household about the numbers
of underemployed members of the
family.
2. Mrs. Yutuc was designated
to facilitate a National Career
Achievement Examination.

class to observe the Cycle of a Frog.

were plan to go in the Municipality
of Arayat to get their Marriage
License.
5. A group of student went to the
Library to gather information about
the history of the Philippines.

Generalization Data collection is the process of gathering

To sum up our lesson. How do you define information from different sources.
collection of data?
Interview, Questionnaires, Observation,
What are the different methods in collecting Registration and Research
the data?
None Ma’am!
Very good, Do you have any question about
collection of data?
None Ma’am!
IV. EVALUATION

Identify the following methods of collecting data use in the situation

1. Student observed the Mongo Seeds inside the pot filled with waters for about 3
days.
2. The Human Resource Officer called Angelo through telephone to ask him
about the availability of the room to be used in the upcoming seminar of the
employee.

10. All the grade 10 students were asked response to the survey form about
HIV Awareness given by the Department of Health.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Create five (5) groups and each group should make skit which aims to show the
methods of collecting data that will perform tomorrow.
