Detailed Lesson Plan in English (Grade 10)

I. Objective:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
1. formulate survey questions;
2. present research data using tables; and
3. make conclusions based on the gathered research data
II. Subject Matter
Writing the Research Body and Conclusion

Materials: PowerPoint Presentations, Audio-Visual Presentation
Values: Develop better decision making, productive insights, and awareness

III. Procedure
A. Learning Activities
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Pre-Activities (Daily Routine)
 Greetings:
Good morning class! Good morning ma’am!
How are you today?
 Prayer: Who wants to lead a (Students volunteer to pray)
prayer?
 Checking of Attendance: Present/Absent
Say present as I call your name.
 Review:
Last time, we discussed how to Answer: We need to study research

introduction and formulate solutions to our existing problems.
research questions.
So, why do we need to study
research or develop a research?
B. Motivation:
Collect the Data
Each group has five jumbled sets of
letters that you can only arrange if you
guess the clue correctly. If you got the
answer, the word appears, and that's
the time you can fix the letters. The first
group to gather all the data or words
will have plus points for the activity
later.
Clues:
1. It pertains to the list of questions
intended for collecting specific data Answer: Survey
from a particular group of people.

2. It is the process of discovering new Answer: Research

knowledge, investigation or
experimentation.

3. It means the subject of the study.

Answer: Respondents

4. It is any information that has been

collected, observed, generated or Answer: Research Data
created to validate original research
findings

5. The part of the research paper that

brings everything together in a Answer: Conclusion
logical manner.
C. Presentation of the Lesson:
Class, our today’s lesson is about writing
research body and conclusion.

Anyone from the class who has an idea Answer: It involves collecting data,
what is included in research body? survey questions, data analysis and
others.
You did advanced reading, very good!

Previously, you learned that in quantitative

research it leans on collecting and
analyzing numerical data, while qualitative
research involves non-numerical data.

In order for you to gather data we use

survey questions. Moreover, to reach your
research objectives you need to write good
survey questions.

So, before you write your survey questions

you need to ask yourself what is the
intended survey for your research.

Survey questions can be either close-ended

or open-ended questions to collect
answers from the respondents.

So, what is an open-ended question? Answer: Open-ended questions require

Anyone? the respondents to provide answers in
their own words.
God job!

Open-ended questions are commonly used

for a qualitative research which the
method of data-collection is through
interview. Interview surveys can be in the
form of printed or one on one
conversations.
For example:
How does New Normal Education affect
your time management now that you are
learning from the convenience of your
home?
If you notice, it is not answerable by yes or
no. There is no list of choices for you to
choose, but only to respond on your own
words.

Next, close-ended questions. Will Answer: A close-ended question is

someone explain what is close-ended answerable by yes or no.
questions?

That’s right!

Close-ended questions are limited by

choices that the respondents can easily
answer, for example;
Which of the following factors
commonly affect your sleeping habits?
___Anxiety
___Social Media
___Online Games
___Workloads/Tasks
___Others…

This is usually used for a quantitative

research and there are different forms of
close-ended questions (e.g., multiple
choice option, yes or no option, Likert scale
option, checklist and more).

Now you are ready to do the same process

to gather your data by conducting your
survey to your target respondents.

However, it does not end there, you have

to evaluate and analyze the collected
research data through data presentation.
Answer: It where the findings presented
What is data presentation? Anyone? or reported.

Okay, good job!

Data presentation is considered the most

important part of the research report,
because it covers the results and
discussion.
Before presenting your data, you have to
include the purpose or the significance of
the study, research questions, research
design and your data-gathering tool. Answer: It will set as a reminder for the
readers to understand the whole
What is the importance including those research.
before you proceed presenting your data?

That’s right!

Moving forward, data presentation for

quantitative data is different from
qualitative data. Answer: In quantitative research the
data are numerical while qualitative
Can anyone explain why they have research is non-numerical, so the
different data presentation? procedure of presenting the data is
different.
Okay, very good!

Class, here are the guidelines in presenting

the quantitative data:
 Support your presentation with tables,
graphs, charts and figures.
 Focus on discussing the most
important information in the graphics.
 Make sure that each graphic is clearly
labelled with a title so that readers can
easily identify and understand them.
 Do not judge or give your opinion on
the results obtained.
 Remember to write for the reader and
it should be logical and easy to follow.

In addition, there are different ways of

presenting your data. You can use various
graphical presentation such as pie charts,
bar graphs, line graphs, etc.
