1. Prayer led by student

2. Greetings and reminders
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Review of the previous lesson

B. Motivational Activity (5 minutes)

The students will be given sets of

questions on the board. The
students shall be grouped by pairs
and will be tasked to answer it. (Student predicted response)
The questions are:

Ask the students about the

relevance of the activity. Then
present to them the next lesson to
be discussed:

D. Discussion

The lesson is all about the

methods in creating qualitative
research.

In the activity, you may have

noticed that you’re asking and
answering questions is pretty
much like a short interview.

Ok that’s good.

That activity is about how to

the methods of qualitative
research.

I have here a word Qualitative Sir Qualitative Research is a one

information or opinions.
What comes in your mind when
you hear that word.

Very Good.

Qualitative Research is a general

term used to describe a way of
knowing in which a researcher
gathers, organizes, and interprets
information obtained from humans
in natural and social settings.

So, there are to two main

categories of research method; the
quantitative research and the
qualitative.

Quantitative is expressed in
numbers and graphs. It is used to
test or confirm theories and
assumptions. This type of research
can be used to establish
generalizable facts about a topic.
While;

Qualitative is expressed in words.

It is used to understand concepts,
thoughts or experiences. This type
of research enables you to gather
in-depth insights on topics that are
not well understood.

They have four Methods in

Qualitative Research

1. Participant Observation

discusses how to enter the

context, the role of the
researcher as a participant, the
collection and storage of field
notes, and the analysis of field
data. the researcher needs to
become accepted as a natural
part of the culture in order to
assure that the observations are
of the natural phenomenon.

Sample Problems:
1. The behavior of
customers at a coffee
shop.
2. The behavior of
children at the daycare
center.
3. The behavior of
religious group.

2. Direct Observation

suggests a more focused than

participant observation. The
researcher is observing certain
sampled situations or people
rather than trying to become
immersed in the entire context.
The researcher is watching
rather than taking part.

Sample Problems:
1. The behavior of
pedestrians at a busy
intersection.
2. The behavior of
animals in the wild.
3. The behavior of
shoppers in a store.

3. Unstructured Interviewing

involves direct interaction

between the researcher and a
respondent or group. There is
no formal structured
instrument or protocol.
Unstructured interviewing is
particularly useful for
exploring a topic broadly.

Sample Problems:
1. The experiences of
individuals with
chronic illness.
2. The experiences of
individuals with
addiction.
3. The experiences of
individuals in
marginalized
communities.

4. Case Study

is an intensive study of a
specific individual or specific
context. There is no single way
to conduct a case study, and a
combination of methods (e.g.,
unstructured interviewing,
direct observation) can be Sir The four methods in qualitative

Very Good.

What is the difference between

participant and direct
observation?

Ok. Very Good.

You really know the difference

of methods in qualitative
research.
Let’s have an activity.

E. Generalization (5 minutes)

Our activity is called “get the

color you want”.

Using the color whele, we will

select the color who will be Sir, I got the color blue.
sharing his/her learning. I have
here an envelope with different
colored paper. I want you to pick a
colored paper and after that you
pick, you raised your hand what
color have you pick. All you have
to do is said the most important
details you learned in our topic.
Each color has corresponded word

a specific context so we use to
Orange – Qualitative Research combine a method of unstructured
Green – Participant Observation and direct observation.
Yellow – Direct Observation
Pink – Unstructured Interviewing
Blue – Case studies

That’s great.

Now let us proceed to our next

activity.

F. Application (15 minutes)

I want you to group into four A, B,

C, D each group should select a
method to gather/collect data and
you will play the game:

The Scavenger Hunt

You are going to locate examples

of each research method in the real
world.
Follow the instruction given for
each group:

 Find an example of
situation where a
researcher might use the
method you have chosen to
collect data.
 You are given 5 minutes to
finish the activity.
 And choose a member
from the group to present
in front. Two (2) minutes
per group. Each group will present their
output.
Group A – Participant Observation
Group B – Direct Observation
Group C – Unstructured
Interviewing
Group D – Case studies

Rubrics:
a. Group Participation and
collaboration. 25%
b. Ability to identify and explain
different research methods. 25%
c. Quality of examples found by each
group. 25%
d. Ability to apply knowledge of
research methods to real-world
examples. 25%

IV. EVALUATION

In your group, A, B, C, and D should list the importance of the following methods in
making research. (10 points)

Answer the question: “How important is it to create qualitative research by your own
understanding of its methods?” (10 points)

V. ASSIGNMENT
Research the advantages and limitations of each qualitative research methods found
in the scavenger hunt. Write this in a one whole sheet of paper.
