Student absenteeism can really affect the students’ academic performance. This
study investigated the effects of absenteeism to their academic performance and the
factors of absenteeism of the Grade-10 students of Mimbunga National High School in
the Division of Gingoog in the first semester. An interview was conducted to the 69
participants from both sections and 42 were identified that had 3 and above absences
for the first semester. The results of the study revealed that these 42 students had the
most numbered absences during the first semester. 19 students from the first section
and 23 students from the second section who had these number of absences. The
researchers selected the respondents that had 3 and above absences for the first
semester. Descriptive statistics such as percentage was used to identify the number of
absences and their average grades of the participants. The researchers used
percentage and frequency by structuring some tables to determine the average grades
and the percentage of absences and this research applied both qualitative and
quantitative methods. After the conducted interview among the participants, the
researchers find out that sickness is the number one reason of why a student absent
from the class. This can cause of a low average grades of a student. Then the
researchers found out that absenteeism can thoroughly affected the students
