Industrial Maintenance - Old Problems need New Solutions

The mandate for Condition Based Maintenance is to predict the onset and probable cause of a potential mechanical failure. The trick is to prescribe the appropriate corrective action and timely intervention needed to avoid the high cost of a catastrophic failure. The science behind this prediction depends on the data gathered by monitoring, recording, tracking and evaluating each and every nuance of a machines performance. The precision behind making an informed decision, depends on the assumption that the collected data is accurate, current and dependable. Essential for gathering accurate, current, and dependable data is standardized, consistent, procedures, done at regular intervals. Improving the fluid handling procedures being used everyday is the earliest and most cost effective way to intervene in the ever expanding wear cycle caused by oil contamination. The two major causes for contamination in hydraulic reservoirs, oil storage tanks and lubricated machinery, are easy to identify; ineffective air breathers and poor fluid handling procedures. The OILMISER FILLorDRAIN standardized fluid handling procedures, improved reliability and increased productivity. It effectively closed the loop on airborne contamination between the oil drum and the hydraulic reservoir. Quantifiable results are the only way to validate true improvement. To the OILMISER FILLorDRAIN we added an external oil sampling port. Using the external sampling port, an oil sample could now be drawn safely under operating conditions, at regular intervals, and without an invasive procedure. The first prerequisite for condition based maintenance was met, accurate, current and dependable data. The benefits of Kidney-Loop Filtration cannot be overstated. Like health care for rotating lubricated machinery, Off-Line filtration should be an essential component in any CBM program. The OILMISER OFF-Line Filtration kit was the first to offer true independent Kidney-loop Filtration for production machinery in a simple and affordable after market retrofit. All the benefits of independent off-line filtration could now be added, on-site, by in-house personnel and without stopping production. The OILMISER OFF-Line Filtration kit removed the two biggest impediments to installing kidney-loop filtration on production equipment, money and downtime.

The OILMISER Vapor Guard is the first effective solution to a problem that plagues lubricated machinery around the World. High working loads, continuous operation, and internal moving parts, can generate oil mist inside a gearbox. Temperature fluctuations and thermal expansion causes this oil mist to vent through the air breather into the workplace. The most visible signs are an oily mixture of dust and dirt that coats the machinery and lube oil on the machine and the floor around it. All the result of an air filter saturated with oil. The OVG has a central diffuser post inside a sealed aluminum containment chamber. The migrating oil mist is dispersed inside the containment chamber, condensing back into liquid oil and collects at the bottom of the containment chamber. From here, this uncontaminated, recovered lube oil is channeled back into the gearbox through internal bleed back holes to continue lubricating the machine. The OILMISER Sampling Tube, with its unique 3 piece design, offers a distinct advantage over the limitations and shortcomings of the conventional brazed pitot tube. For starters the stainless steel pitot tube has an inside area 4 times larger than conventional pitot tubes, requiring the effort when drawing an oil sample using a hand held vacuum pump. Secondly, the OILMISER Sampling Tube screws directly into any access port from " NPT to 2" NPT without using a stack of reducer bushings. Thirdly, the pitot tube can be removed after installation and cut to length and reinserted to avoid any mechanical interference. These features add a whole new level efficiency and flexibility to gearbox maintenance for the OEM, the service provider and the end user. The OILMISER Reservoir Aspirator represents a complete rethinking and reengineering of the conventional filler/breather. All aspirated reservoirs breathe in through an air breather and keep airborne contamination out. Traditionally, they exhaust through the same air breather, removing oil mist and vapors from the exhaust air as well. The OILMISER Reservoir Aspirator replaces the conventional filler/breather. It has two separate, unidirectional passage ways. One passage is for the air filter and keeps airborne contamination out. The second passageway is only for the exhaust air. The efficiency and useful life of the air filter, is greatly increased when oily exhaust fumes do not back flow through it.

The OILMISER Plug & Sampling Valve is designed to survive in the harshest of industrial environments. Oil contamination is no less of a concern on off-road and mining equipment than it is in a manufacturing facility. Due to the difficulty and risk of oil sampling on mobile equipment the norm is to change out the oil after 2000 hours of operation, without taking an oil sample. The OILMISER Plug & Sampling Valve is starting to change this decision. The low profile design makes it virtually indestructible in the work place, while providing clean and easy access for drawing clean, consistent and reliable oil samples with a hand held vacuum pump. Some users have doubled operating time to 4000 hours.
