KEY PRINCIPLES/PRACTICES:

• The effectiveness of leadership depends on the variety of leadership

behaviours instead of a particular types.

• The leadership behaviour repertoire is a collection of behaviour options

available to leader to pick and choose from to find the way to act suitable
in light of the circumstances.

• Leaders can use various approaches to be effective, leadership is most

effective when leaders draw on the variety of options of the repertoire.

• The OECD (2001) indeed signaled that leaders need diverse competences
to cope with complex challenges in the public sector. Leaders need to work
with range of internal and external stakeholders across boundaries of
countries, sector, organizations, and professions as well as throughout the
hierarchy, from employees to top management.

APPLICATIONS OF PRINCIPLES/PRACTICES:
In the field of education to understand the current learning trends and to
accomplish main mission/goal in the education sector understanding different
leadership behaviour is crucial. A leader has to play the role of innovator, director,
monitor, communicator etc. in order to be success as an educator. An effective
leadership depends on the variety of leadership behaviour instead of particular
behaviour. Leader need to behave as per the situation.
There are various types of leadership styles given by different authors such as
transactional, transformational, and charismatic. In these styles leaders motivate
employees to perform well. This tradition has an empirical individual centered
approach. An effective leadership depends on the variety of leadership behaviour
instead of particular behaviour.
Examining styles tells us something about how leaders implement their actions
without taking the range of behaviours into account. So in a workplace leader
need to behave as per the need of the organization.

KEY TAKE AWAYS

• The current study provides support for the importance of an integral
approach that examines the combination of various leadership
behaviour at the individual level in public management because the
ambiguous context of many public leaders forces them to draw a
broad repertoire of behaviours.

• This study reveals that leaders have to work in different directions

and need to switch their strategies and combine various types of
leadership behaviours to be able to influence and facilitate.

• A leader needs to perform various roles such as a role of an

innovator as well as on the other hand has to play the role of monitor,
coordinator, mentor and so many.

• Leaders need to balance multiple needs from the environment while

being constrained by the complex hierarchical structure that divides
formal authority between leader in different positions.
