1 General notes
With the launch of ISTA 4, the functionality for programming has been integrated in ISTA.
E Series
F, G and I series (will be switched off gradually from ISTA/P 3.62.0 on)
F, G and I Series
The Release Notes list all known faults and faults that are currently still unresolved, with possible
workarounds which are important for the Retailer Organisation. Please contact Technical Support if
additional faults occur on the vehicle. In particular in the following cases:
With ISTA 4, it is now also possible to send feedback relating to programming directly to BMW AG. Selecting
the "Feedback" symbol (envelope symbol) displays the feedback screen with input boxes.
If a new fault pattern is included in a release, this is indicated in the heading with * NEW *.
S15A (G1x, G3x, RR1x) S15A-17-03-509 - ISTA/P 3.62.1 / ISTA Service Data 4.06.24
I levels correspond to the ISTA Service Data version on the front page.
E Series (ISTA/P)
E89x (E81, E82, E84, E87, E88, E89, E90, E91, E92, E93) E89x-16-11-500
PuMA measures or similar documents sometimes refer to an I level for the solution to a problem.
In this case it is important to know which ISTA release contains the I level.
Series group e.g. F020 - year 2017 - month (3, 7 or 11) - version (>= 500)
Then this I level was already contained in an older ISTA release: S15A-16-11-503
Then this I level was already contained in an older ISTA release: S15A-17-03-505

3 Innovations
The following interesting innovations are included, amongst others.
Importing the vehicle order (central encoding key) using ISTA/P is possible
Benefit: The vehicle order (central encoding key) for E-series before 2001 can be imported manually via data
management or data carrier.
Benefit: The new G01, G32, RR11, RR12 can be dealt with.
Benefit: Update of the map data by ISTA 4 in motor vehicles with navigation system.

Information: To protect against theft, the head unit (HU-H2) of the specified vehicles with production date as
of November 2016 is paired with the Body Domain Controller (BDC).
Vehicles: G01, G1x, G3x, F15, F16, F85, F86, F54, F60, RR11, RR12 as of 11/16 can be dealt with
Notes:
For the installation of a HU-H2 new part, the locking is performed automatically by ISTA 4 or ISTA/P.
Previously the component protection had to be activated by Technical Support using IRAP.
In the following cases the component protection must be activated using enabling codes in order for the
navigation to work properly:
Improved process:
1. Contact Technical Support via PuMA, who will generate the required enabling codes for the head unit.
2. Download and unpack the enabling codes from Technical Support (PuMA) or the Aftersales Assistance
Portal (ASAP) and save them for importing into ISTA.
3. Connect the vehicle and select the Initialisation of head unit component protection function in the
Additional software tab.
5. Select the storage location of the enabling codes in the next dialogue.
6. After successful enabling, select the exchanged control unit (BDC or head unit).

4.1 * NEW * G30, G31 - execution stop for vehicles with manual gearbox
Fault description:
At the start of the programming session an execution stop occurs with a reference to the Release Notes.
The cause is a problem in the ELV (electric steering column lock) software.

4.2 * NEW* G1x, G3x USA and Canada - S15A-17-07-502 software not available
Fault description:
Currently G11, G12 in the USA and Canada cannot be dealt with using the S15A-17-07-502 software.
For this reason the corresponding software is not included in ISTA/P and for the USA and Canada market in
ISTA 4.
Measure/workaround:
none
The S15A-17-07-503 software will be provided with ISTA/P 3.62.2 and ISTA 4.06.3x for USA and Canada.

4.5 ISTA/P calculates the special measures plan for EPS in F15, F16
Fault description:
After the software update to I level 17-03-5xx, ISTA/P calculates a special measures plan for the repair of the
EPS, even though it is not present in the vehicle.
Measure/workaround:
Do not accept the special measures plan for the EPS or, alternatively, use ISTA 4.

4.9 Vehicle order import fails due to antivirus software and firewall
IMPORTANT!
In individual cases, the vehicle order-import fails because of installed security software (antivirus
software or firewall). After the start of the session, the vehicle identification with ISTA/P fails.
(BMW internal sites are not affected by the fault)
Measure/workaround:
For more details, see ISPI Dealer Self Support entry 51219.

Fault description:
During vehicle management, one of the following Ethernet-capable control units should be programmed:HU-
H, RSE, ATM, KOMBI, ACC, ICAM, KAFAS
At the start of the session, a note appears indicating that the IP address is invalid. The Ethernet
programming can fail if the following steps are not followed:
All F, G, I Series
Measure/workaround:
4. If the fault message continues to appear: Check that the Ethernet wiring in the vehicle corresponds to
the wiring diagram in ISTA
