The tale of Lazarus and the rich man is found in our gospel reading today from Luke 16:19–31.
Jesus is urging his people to be open-minded. As followers, we must be conscious of our
surroundings. Loving one's neighbor is the only requirement. We must understand that in order to
help the needy and the impoverished, we must be willing to look past our own needs. It is a
struggle for us to care for our neighbors, especially those who are in need. The tale from Luke
16:19–31 serves as a reminder that we each play a different role in Christian life. Try to give
some of your resources to the underprivileged if you have enough. Try to save lives by consoling
and feeding the victims.

The whole passage touches me because it reminds me to be open-minded in all aspects of a

situation. which is very needed at this time because we sometimes jump to conclusions.

I can always apply this in my daily life because we should always be open-minded before
judging the situation. This teaches me that we should help all those that need our help and those
that want justice. This also tells us to learn to serve, which is similar to what God is teaching us
in today's gospel. We should serve others instead of being served without expecting others to do
the same for us.

Dear God, please give me strength when I am weak, love when I feel forsaken, courage when I
am afraid, wisdom when I feel foolish, comfort when I am alone, hope when I feel rejected, and
peace when I am in turmoil. Amen
