15 years ago, a marketing agency and university in Mexico organized an international congress on the theme of technology applied to graphic design. Designers from around the country were invited to submit proposals representing the theme, with the winning submission receiving attractive prizes like cars and computers. The author lost interest after learning the selected image was a simple pencil with a "technological" sticker, finding it too outdated. This event has caused the author to reflect over time on the relationship between graphic design and technology sectors, and how graphic design can contribute to technology as well as benefit from it. The author was later prompted to write this article by a former professor sharing their professional perspective on how design is essential to communicate technology's benefits to people.

15 years ago have a International Congress of Graphic Design whose theme
was The Technology applied to graphic design, organized for a marketing agency joined with an autonomous university in Mexico. A make announcement among designers from all over the country to choose from among all the proposals sent the image that best represented the theme of the event. The prizes were very attractive: cars, computers, plotter... To tell the truth, I never found out what the results of that congress were, because when I learned that the selected image was that of the already so rehashed pencil with a "technological" sticker, irremediably condemned to obsolescence, I lost all interest in the event. However, that event has been spinning in my head ever since, asking me questions that have mutated over time and professional experience. At first they were: Is that all we can think of as designers? A pencil? and then ask myself: What kind of relationship can there be between a sector that insists on seeing itself as a pencil and another that, by its nature, evolves without stopping? And lately: The contributions of technology to graphic design are undeniable, but if it is a peer relationship, what about the contributions that graphic design can offer to technology? So when Manuel de la Cera, who was my professor at the Uma Azcapotzalco when I was studying Graphic Communication Design, proposed me to write an article referring to the vision I have as a professional about graphic design and technology, ideas made their way to write this text. Notice that will be somewhat autobiographical, and I do not know how similar it can be to the line of a scientific journal, but I will appeal to the importance of sharing the professional experience that has led me to verify that "design is essential to graphically communicate essential processes so that people can benefit from technology". announcement Convocatoria congress Congreso obsolescence Obsolescencia condemned Condenado between Entre undeniable Innegable insists Insiste evolves Evoluciona lately Últimamente autobiographical Autobiográfico
