Sting is a British singer, songwriter, actor, and he was the lead singer for the British rock trio The Police during part
of the 1970s and 1980s. Sting learnt to play the guitar and the piano as a child. Then, he was a musician in jazz
groups and began singing. In 1977 he started working as a musician full-time. Sting formed the group The Police in
1978. The members of the band were Sting, Stewart Copeland and guitarist Henry Palovani. Then, Andy Summers
replaced Palovani. Their first hit song was “Roxanne” (1978). Sting wrote and sang that song. The band was really
successful but they had to stop working together in 1984. In 1985, Sting formed a band of top jazz musicians called
the Blue Turtles. Apart from his passion for music, he is also interested in social problems such as ecological
problems, the protection of natural resources, and people’s rights.
