Constructing a Frequency Distribution

Step 1: Get the lowest and he highest values in the distribution:

L = 10 and H = 100

Step 2: Get the value of the Range:

R = H – L = 100 – 10 = 90

Step 3: Decide on the number of classes:

𝑘 = 1 + 3.3 log(𝑛) = 1 + 3.3 log(20) = 5.29 ≈ 5
(There will be 5 or 6 classes in the frequency distribution table)

Step 4: Determine the size of the class interval:

𝑅 90
𝑖 = 𝑘 = 5 = 18
(Each class contains 18 values, i.e. the lowest class will be 10 to 27)
