Installation instructions for 3000 RS232 Bluetooth® wireless technology

adaptor
The 3000 RS232 Bluetooth® wireless technology adaptor (the adaptor) allows a Tru-Test 3000 series indicator
(the indicator) to connect wirelessly with a Tru-Test XRS Stick Reader (the stick reader) or other Bluetooth
enabled EID reader. The adaptor is supplied as an accessory (Tru-Test part number 810985).
Note: This adaptor is not required for an XR3000BT indicator which has built-in Bluetooth wireless technology.
The adaptor has a range of up to 100 m (330’), depending on the environment.

1. Checking the software version

Before using the adaptor, we recommend that you check that the indicator is running V2.2j software (or later). The adaptor will not function correctly with older
version of software.
To view the indicator’s software version:
1. Press to turn on the indicator.
2. From the Weighing screen, press , then to go to the Indicator Information
screen.
The software version is displayed.

2. Upgrading the software

The latest software version can be downloaded from www.tru-test.com/new/downloads.asp. Instructions for upgrading are provided on the website.

3. Connecting the adaptor and configuring the indicator

1. Insert the adaptor into the indicator’s CON2 port.
2. From the Weighing screen, press , then to access the Serial Setup
screen.
3. Enable CON2 INPUT and select EID.

4. Pairing the devices

To establish a Bluetooth wireless connection between the indicator and a Tru-Test XRS Stick Reader or other Bluetooth enabled EID reader, you need to ‘pair’ the
two devices. The following instructions are specifically for pairing a Tru-Test XRS Stick Reader. If your Bluetooth enabled EID reader is not a Tru-Test XRS Stick
Reader, refer to the pairing instructions that came with your reader.
Note:
- Before pairing the two devices, ensure that the stick reader has BLUETOOTH® set to Auto (BT AUTO displayed on the LCD). If not, press and hold both the
Read button and the Scroll button to enter the stick reader’s settings. Press the scroll button repeatedly to scroll through the options. When BLUETOOTH® is
selected, press the Read button repeatedly until BLUETOOTH® (AUTO) is displayed.
- When connecting the two devices, the indicator must always be turned on before the stick reader.
To pair the stick reader with the indicator:
1. Ensure the stick reader and the indicator are well within range of each other and that the stick reader is turned off.
2. Press to turn on the indicator.
3. Press the Read button to turn on the stick reader.
A rotating circle displays on the stick reader’s LCD indicating that it is searching for Bluetooth devices.
4. After approximately one minute, the pairing is complete and a connection is established.
A lightning bolt appears on the stick reader’s LCD and ‚Bluetooth connected‛ appears on the indicator’s Weighing screen to show that the wireless
connection is active. Now that pairing is complete, subsequent connections should be virtually instant.

Troubleshooting
 If the stick reader automatically connects to another Bluetooth enabled device instead of the indicator, turn off the other device and start the pairing procedure
again.
 Pairing may fail if there are too many Bluetooth enabled devices in the vicinity. Once the stick reader has found 10 devices, it stops searching for others.
 If your Bluetooth enabled EID reader is not a Tru-Test XRS Stick Reader, your reader must be capable of being the Bluetooth master device. The adaptor is a
slave device only.

5. Testing the connection

Before testing the connection, enable EID on the indicator’s Weighing screen (press and enable EID).
1. Ensure the stick reader and the indicator are well within range of each and that the stick reader is turned off.
2. Press to turn on the indicator.
3. Press the Read button to turn on the stick reader.
4. Scan an EID tag with the stick reader (Press and release the Read button while passing near an EID tag).
The EID number should appear on the main Weighing screen.
