In the current version of the WAG TSI [1] requirements for (buffing and) draw gear were
considered insufficient to guarantee safety and interoperability of wagons identified in
section 7.6.4. Consequently, additional requirements (detailed in §4) applicable to
(buffing and) draw gear have been deemed necessary:
The requirements related to the buffing and draw gear in the WAG TSI are gathered in
section 4.2.2.1 ―Interface (e.g. Coupling) between vehicles, between sets of vehicles
and between trains‖
Note: In this section of the WAG TSI, a ‗Draw gear‗ is defined as comprising:
- a screw coupling
- a draw hook
- a draw bar with an elastic system.
This definition is different from the definition of the related standard EN15566 where the
screw coupling is considered as a separate item, and two other components are
included: the joint in and the support plate.
4.1 Buffers:
The following provisions of the EN 15551-2009 [3] shall be applied:
dynamic energy capacity
Section 4.2 ―Buffers with buffer stroke 105 mm (Categories A, B and C)―
Section 4.4 ―Long stroke buffer 150 mm‖
attachments
Section 5.2 ―Fixing on vehicle and interchangeability―
stroke and anti-rotation device
This requirement is already laid down in section 4.2.2.1.2.1 amended by the
Decision 2009/107/EC (Annex JJ.2. paragraph 2.1 ‗Buffer and draw gear‘ first
