The Civil Rights Movement in the US and the Anti-apartheid movement in

South Africa were the two most important marks in the fight around racism around the
globe during the XX century. Both count on one strong leader that got immortalized in
history, them being: Nelson Mandela in South Africa and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in
the US. However, their fights were not fought the same way. Not only that, but their
whole fights were different. On one side, in Africa, the Apartheid was the
institutionalization of complete segregation, not even allowing blacks and whites to
have mutual relationships without it being considered a criminal offense. Furthermore,
the Anti-Apartheid Movement was meant to change the situation in the whole
country. Meanwhile, the situation in the US was a bit more narrowed down to Albany,
Georgia. Also, the racism in the US, despite being extremely present, was not as an
objective in law as the Apartheid was.

Even the aftermaths were different in both situations, as, at on hand, in South
Africa, Nelson Mandela even got arrested; while in the US, despite the claims of the
Civil Rights Movement being declined, Martin Luther King carried on his life after the
movement was done, and even inspired more people to fight for it by considering it a
lost victory. Even with all those differences, both of the movements made an
unmeasurable impact on the fight against racism and should be held as some of the
most important beneficial events of the XX century.
