[1] Problem identification

It's important to make sure that hashboard is the failed part. Miners can have various
hardware failures caused by many factors, varying from vibration during initial transportation to
abnormal temperatures at which some parts malfunction.

Connect miner to the internet and start mining as usual, make sure that your frequency is
set to the standard rate for your miner. If miner's interface is not available after a while, it is
controller board that failed. You may try to recover your current board by holding Reset or IP
Report button for over 5 seconds, or buy another one.

In case miner's interface is accessible, check logs and make sure fan tests pass through. In
case they don't pass and process gets stuck on a certain fan, simply exchange bad fan with the
new one. You may also see fans in your Miner Status interface:

Just one fan works, which is why bards fail to launch

Logs will indicate miner's attempts to boot hashboards. Sometimes when the first board is
not booting miner won't attempt to boot the rest. So we highly recommend you to try if it works
with just 2 or 1 board before you conclude that certain board is broken.

If everything seems to be fine, but you still experience problems you should update your
controller board to the latest firmware. Be careful! Only install firmware that's intended to be
used with your type of S9 miner! (We've had cases when customers used wrong firmware and
couldn't roll back changes).

If you had hashing board failures and rebooting / resetting / re-installing / upgrading
firmware did not help, then it is almost certain there is a problem within that board.

Examples of various problems:

[2] Preparatory actions

Disconnect all wires from the miner and from the failed board, unscrew the back panel,
carefully take the board out and put it on your workspace like this.

Connect "Reparatur S9" to power using your regular 12V miner's adapter with 6-pin
output, and then connect it to the board using 18-pin wire. Don't forget to plug dedicated usb
wire into the computer. Connect hashboard to another power adapter, but do not plug it into the
power outlet yet, let it stay unpowered until "Reparatur S9" fully boots. We suggest you to use
an outlet power bar with button to easily switch it on an off, as you'll do it frequently.

Launch a USB-SERIAL program on your PC.

Make sure your selected COM port in the program matches the one selected by
Windows. Just go to Windows device manager, right-click on the interface and find which COM
port is used. You may also change it right there if you wish. Sometimes it may not work with
some computers running Windows 10, so we suggest using Windows 7.

[3] Reparatur testing procedures

Check your screen for this message, which will appear after "Reparatur S9" has been
fully booted:

Then you need to power on your hashboard (either plug adapter into the wall jack or
press a button if you're using power bar) and press a button on Reparatur to begin 1st test. It will
report to you which chip is broken.

When failed chip is found you need to replace it with the new one. We suggest you to go
through the manual checking procedure, as you may find more than one chip to replace and do it
all at once.

Disconnect your S9 hashboard from the power source and Reparatur. Let it cool for a
while, don't ever overheat it! You may use fan to keep temperature low.

/After you're done with repairs it is recommended to check the board 3 times using
Reparatur before marking it as good/

[4] Manual checking procedures

Pretty often 2-3 chips burn at the same time.

Engineer should press a button on Reparatur and then begin testing the board with
multimeter. Hashboard will be tested for a period of time. In case engineer didn't have enough
time to test it he should press button again. When the board becomes too hot tests should be
stopped and board needs to be cooled down. We suggest keep temperature below 100 °C (212
°F).
