Determine the characters. You can

list each character and give
detailed descriptions for each one,
such as their name, age, physical
appearance, personality, and
relation to other characters.
Write the dialogue for the
characters. It should move the
story forward and reveal the
characters’ relationships with
each other and show their moods
and personalities. It should also
sound believable and real. So,
there can be pauses and
contractions like in everyday
speech.
Determine the main problem that
the characters face, the conflict.
The plot of a play generally
proceeds in the following way:
1. In the beginning, the
characters and conflict are
described,
2. The characters try to solve
the problem, which creates
the rising action.
3. Their action leads to
a climax.
4. The falling action leads to a
resolution that sums up how
things end.
Determine where the play takes
place, which is the setting.
