The Questionnaire contain of Six (6) Themes made up of Sections A –


F. Instructions:

 Participants may be allowed not to write their personal details on


the questionnaire.
 Privacy and anonymity are completely definite, only the investigative
researcher and the supervisors will have admittance to the participants‟
information.
 Participants can withdraw their involvement in the questionnaire administered
or interview

3. How can you quantify the payment in terms of high or low?
4. What can you tell me about your experiences and challenges pertaining
housing accessibility?
5. What do you think could be done to address your housing experiences
and/or challenges?
6. How do you feel about the terms and conditions of accessing a house especially for
the low-income earners?
7. How do you feel about the terms and conditions of the banking system in
South Africa regarding housing affordability or accessibility?
8. What do you think about the impact of the GEHS in addressing these challenges?
9. Do you think urban poor benefit from the partnership between the government
and the S.A. Home loans in accessing affordable housing? Please elaborate.
10. Can you explain any role of developer in trying to make it possible for the
urban poor to access social housing facilities?

THEME E
Questions for developers:

i. Can you briefly tell me about yourself and the type of work that you do?
ii. What group of people are your target when developing any property?
iii. What are your experiences about housing affordability for the urban poor?
iv. Do you think the social housing programmes/low-cost housing provision has
made any difference in the provision of affordable housing for the poor in the city?
v. What is your role as a developer in trying to make it possible for the low-income
group to access social housing?
vi. What do you think the government should do to intervene?
vii. Do you think the terms and conditions set by the banks in South Africa as being
fair or not? Please elaborate?

Questions for government officials: Department of Social Housing

1. Please tell me about yourself and what is your role in the department of
Social housing and your rank/position:
2. What class of income group do you think that benefit more from the
social housing programmes?
3. What is the mode of acquiring a home?
4. What are the difficulties associated with housing delivery and affordability
for the low-meduim income earners?
5. Do you think social housing programmes/ low-cost housing provision has
made any difference in the provision of affordable housing for the low-
income group?
6. Can you briefly evaluate urban housing policy and programmes in relation
to provision of houses to the urban poor?
7. Do you regard the terms and conditions set by the South Africa and
Nigeria social, public housing programme as being fair or not to this
group?
8. What are your intervention strategies to enable the low-income earners to
access affordable housing?
9. How are you going to ensure that those strategies are fully implemented?
10. What do you think government should do to intervene?

All these questions may be followed by probing questions to elicit more information from the
respondents.
