Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
Welcome to the Science-Grade 1 SSES Alternative
Delivery Mode (ADM) module on Force in Action.
This module was collaboratively designed,
developed and reviewed by educators both from public
and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or
facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set
by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal,
social, and economic constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners
into guided and independent learning activities at their
own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help
learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

What I Need to Know

This module was designed and written with you in


mind. It is here to help you master the skills in identifying
and discussing the changes that takes place when
objects and materials are pushed, pulled, thrown,
dropped and rolled. The scope of this module permits it to
be used in many different learning situations. The
language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of
students. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard
sequence of the course. But the order in which you read
them can be changed to correspond with the textbook
you are now using.

The module is about:

After going through this module, you are expected

1. identify the changes present or happen in an object
when force is applied;
2. discuss changes that takes place when objects and
materials are pushed, pulled, thrown, dropped and
rolled; and
3. recognize the importance of force in doing different
worthwhile activities.

Lesson

1 Force in Action

In the previous lesson, you have learned that force is


important to make things move or stop. Force can also
change the motion or movement of an object.

In this lesson, you will be able to learn the changes in


motion that takes place when you apply force to objects
and materials.

What is It

Force changes the motion of an object or material. It


can move the object or material away or towards you.

According to Buentipo, 2019, pushing makes an


object move away from you. It may go forward,
backward, up or down.

Below are examples of pushing activities that change


the motion of an object:

roll a ball

kick a ball

throw a ball

Pulling makes an object moves toward you
(Buentipo,2019).

Below are examples of pulling activities that change


the motion of an object:

Also, force can change the shape of some objects
when you pushed or pulled it (Del Prado,2019).
