Culture – the features of our achievements as a human or society. This means that this is a product
of human knowledge, the application of our skills, the product of our relationship of other part of
the society.
-Intricate system that can be manifested by our beliefs, practices, values, attitudes, laws,
norms, artifacts, symbols, knowledge.
Aspects/Characteristics of Culture
1. Dynamic, Flexible and Adaptive – Innovation takes place in every person. Like language is
very dynamic, it changes anytime. Today, Filipinos are using “jeje” and “beke” languages. We
Filipinos are flexible because we are able to adapt the changes around us.
2. Shared and contested – The product or achievement of a person is shared to the society.
3. Learned through Socialization and Enculturation – We learned through the use of our
language on how we communicate.
4. It can be transmitted – Culture should be transmitted and passed on to one person to
another.
5. Patterned Social Interactions – Usually happens by following trends.
6. Requires Language – Language has a vital role in transferring culture.
ELEMENTS OF CULTURE
1. Knowledge – Things that are part of our gathered information or our perception itself.
2. Beliefs – What is the accepted reality in that society. Ex. Filipino superstitious beliefs.
3. Social Norms – These are the established expectations of society. This is otherwise known as
the “standard” of the society.
