Leeds Met praised in international survey

Leeds Met has been rated the best in the UK for our language support, quality of accommodation and learning spaces, in an international survey of students. The latest 2010 Autumn Wave of the International Student Barometer, which tracks the opinions of international students at 203 institutions worldwide, shows that Leeds Met's international students rated us second overall in the United Kingdom, out of 59 participating institutions. Leeds Met was rated sixth in the world for the quality of its lectures by the respondents and also scored highly for its libraries and teaching. It was top five in the UK for eight other measures including laboratories, employability and marking criteria.

Director of the International Office at Leeds Met, Andrew Disbury, said: "The fact that Leeds Metropolitan has outperformed all its peer universities to rank in the top few of all UK universities is a great result and reflects all the hard work that colleagues at our University put in to ensure that international students have a high quality experience and excellent teaching." The International Student Barometer (ISB) is administered by International Graduate Insight Group, and tracks the opinions of international students at 203 institutions worldwide, including 59 UK universities, and attracts feedback from over 400,000 students. The survey is carried out twice a year and looks at student satisfaction with arrival, learning and living experience, and student support. This is the fourth year that Leeds Metropolitan has taken part in the ISB with responses from students from countries including India, Australia, Nigeria, China and the United States. Leeds Met ranked in the top ten of all participating universities worldwide in the following areas: . 6th - Quality lectures . 8th - Physical library . 9th - Language support . 10th - Good teachers Leeds Met ranked in the top five of all participating UK universities in the following areas: . 1st - Learning spaces . 1st - Accommodation quality . 1st - Language support . 2nd - Physical library . 4th - Laboratories . 5th - Quality lectures . 5th - Online library . 5th - Employability The survey also reported that 87 per cent of Leeds Met's international students would strongly encourage friends and family from home to apply to study at Leeds Met, demonstrating the University's ability to deliver high quality education and experience to all of its international students. Leeds Metropolitan University is second in the UK for university sport and recently announced that its Headingley Campus will host the Chinese Track & Field team as their training camp before the London 2012 Olympics.
