GENERAL PRESCRIPTIONS FOR THE OPERATOR 10.3.1, OPERATING THE CRANE ‘At every working shift, before proceeding with any load hoisting, check for controls correct functioning. Lift loads of known weight only at the indicated ranges and speeds, as specified in the present instruction manual or on the plate affixed to the crane electric cabinet (please refer to load diagrams, paragraph 07.14). ‘The hook must always be kept vertical, without slantwise pulls and swinging; it will not be employed for uprooting or extracting operations, From the working post, the operator must be able to clearly see: the building site area, the loading ‘and unloading points, the aerial path of the load and the allowed load signs. Moreover, he must be able to check that nobody is standing within the danger zone. In case of limited visibility, the Presence of a signalman having @ complete view of.the working area and of the load path Is strictly required (paragraph 10.4). Before actuating a reverse movement, always walt for the previous to stop. Avoid jog or pulse controls, should they cause oscilations. {At starting or stopping stage of any movernent, use slow speeds. ‘When operating more than one movement contemporaneously, survey any drifting oscillation of the lifted load. Limit switches and limiters are to be considered as safety devices. Under normal working conditions, be careful to stop any crane movement before their intervention. Before starting any movement, always check for correct singing, balance and stability of the lifted loads. ‘Actuate the emergency stop device (red mushroom push button on the cable or remote control board) only in case of need or danger. ‘When resting the foad, keep the cable tensioned by means of the weight of the load block to avoid improper or incorrect winding of the hoisting cable on the cru. Under any working conditions three cable turns are always to be left wound on the drums; adjust the limiters accordingly, if required, Do not walk under suspended loads and do not lft loads above operators within the crane operating arc of action. Hoisting and handling operations must always be signalled by depressing the ALARM push-button fitted on the control board, so that all persons eventually exposed to the risk of load falling will immediately abandon the danger zone. ‘The hydraulic devices must be used only for assembly and disassembly. Never use the hydraulic assembly devices when the crane has a load hanging to the hook. Danger of great damages for the hydraulic devices. It Is forbidden to fold the jib with a load hanging to the hook. Anyway, itis forbidden to execute operations of assembly, disassembly or changing of the boom configuration with hanging loads, ito prevent serious damages to the hydraulic devices. Keep cables, even the galvanized ones, accurately lubricated with grease or dense oil; furthermore, thoroughly clean the cables from deposits of sand, cement encrustations, etc. Should it be necessary, take down the cables from the crane and carefully wind them up on a reel. Every month effect a careful inspection of the conditions of all cables and locking devices. More often, proceed with @ quick checkout of general cable conditions and make sure that all sheaves tum freely. Every three months an inspector shall be in charge of accurately check the condition of the cables ‘and of the load block chain, recording the results on the CRANE LOGBOOK. CCable replacement shall be carried out depending on position and number of broken elementary wires, wear and corrosion degree as well as of any other alteration or damage (pareareph. 11.1.3). Replacement shall be recorded in the CRANE LOGBOOK. When replacing the cable, replace the fixing clamps of the cable ends too. Cable replacement shall be effected by trained, skilled and qualified operators only. Cables will be spread out full length before being wound up on sheaves and drums. Check that end clamps are tightened (paragraph 07.12). ‘The hoisting cable is equipped with a threaded swage terminal (100% efficiency), in order to ‘assure the min. safety factor to the cable (i.e. 5). CABLES REPLACEMENT A) BROKEN WIRES 1.9 The instructions below are an abstract from the catalogue by the cables manufacturer. It is necessary to count the broken wires visible on the outside of the cable and inspect the mst worn section. 1.10 The table shows the maximum number of broken wires acceptable over a cable length equal to 6 ‘and 30 times the digmeter of the cable itself. Inspection must be effected on both lengths. Replace the Cable if broken wires exceed the lower of the two indicated values. ¥ “CTROLLEY DISPLACEMENT: 6 MM DIA, CABLE Length 6x@ = 36 mm T Max. number of broken wires: Length 30xd = 180 mm I Max. number of broken wires LOAD HOISTING: 9 MM DIA, CABLE 5 Length 6x@ = 54 mm ‘Max. number of broken wires = 4 Length 30x = 270 mm Max. number of broken wires = 8 1.11 It is worth pointing out that broken wires are often difficult to identify, as their ends do not protrude from the cable surface. 1.12 Camry out these operations with extreme care and remove any grease from the cable. Rub the cable with'a piece of softwood and, if possible, bend the cable to force the ends of the broken wires out of the cable. When in doubt, replace the cable. B) WEAR 1.13 Worn wires are a sign of impending breakage and, beyond a certain wear degree, a worn wire is to be considered as a broken wire. The instructions above are therefore applicable here too. Advanced Wires state of wear makes it necessary to carry out more frequent inspections. When the total cable diameter is 7% smaller than the original, the cable is to be replaced, even if no broken wires are detected. ©) CORROSION 1.14 As for wear, corrosion causes the wire to break. Damages caused by corrosion, however, considering the same diameter reduction, are more severe than wear damages. The same criteria as above shall be applied in an even stricter way. D) CABLES NEED REPLACEMENT IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CASES 1.15 The total cable diemeter is 7% smaller than the original, even in one point only. 1.16 The strand has broken or is 40% smaller than its actual section 1.17 The cable has been twisted, bent or squashed by sharp edges, eyes compression etc. 1.18 The core comes out of the cable even only in one point. 1.19 When, being the cable tensioned, one or more strands are slack or protrude from the cable. 1.20. Braids or elementary wires are opened at the ends, 1.21.
