Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION

According to Tria (2020), most countries around the world have temporarily

closed educational institutions to contain the spread of the virus and reduce infections.

Face- to-face classes was suspended nationwide and it bombed the education system

of the country. The philippines was in great challenge during the time of pandemic on

how to continue to give quality education to learners.

That is why the Department of Education implemented the flexible model of

blended learning despite many oppositions because of the risk to open classes because

of the virus. The different learning modalities are the following: Modular (Printed),

Modular (Digitized), Online, Education TV, Radio-Based Instruction, Home

Schooling and Blended Learning. For those living in rural areas where internet

connection is only available for only few. Modular Distance Learning was and is

being implemented.

Modular Distance Learning is the use of modules made by teachers with

different tasks and learning activities based on the essential learning competencies.

The use of Modular Distance Learning as part of a school’s overall program will

alleviate issues such as continuing quality education of the learners in this New

Normal Education, to still attain its mission and vision which is to provide quality

education and offering an appropriate selection of tracks and strands for the Senior

High School students at Pili National High School. The researchers will produce a

series of recommendations for introducing effective and viable initiatives in

comparable schools to the target school. Additionally, there is lack of studies

comparing parents and students’ expectations for modular distance learning

implemented by educational leaders, including local school boards.


The aim of this research is to provide useful information to educational leaders

(secondary education stakeholders) to assist them in making critical decisions about

the introduction of Modular Distance Learning in public schools in the Philippines.

Objective of the Study

This study entitled, the Level of Perception in Earth and Life Science – Self learning
Module and Academic Performance of Grade 12 William Wordsworth of Pili National High
School S.Y. 2021-2022, seeks to achieve the following objectives:

1. To determine the level of perception in Earth and Life Science-

Self Learning Module of the Grade 12 William Wordsworth of Pili National

High School 2021-2022.

2. To provide useful information to educational leaders that will

help them decide better decisions about the modular distance learning.

3. To help students be aware on how the school still aims to provide

quality education through distance learning.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The study will be conducted to determine the Level of Perception in Earth and Life Science –
Self learning Module and Academic Performance of Grade 12 William Wordsworth of Pili
National High School S.Y. 2021-2022.
Specifically, this study seeks to answers the following questions:

1. What is the level of perception in Earth and Life Science- Self Learning

Module of the Grade 12 William Wordsworth senior high students of Pili

National High School S.Y. 2021-2022 in terms of:

1.2 Activities

2. What is the Academic Performance in Earth and Life Science of

Grade-12 William Wordsworth Students?

3. Is there a significant relationship between the level of perception in Earth

and Life Science and Academic Performance of Grade-12 William

Wordsworth students of Pili National High School?


STATEMENT OF THE HYPOTHESIS

There is no significant relationship between the level of perception in earth and life scienc-
self learning module in terms of Objectives and Activities and the academic performance of
the Grade 12 William Wordsworth senior high students of Pili National High School S.Y.
2021-2022

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The researchers believed that it would benefit the following:

Students. They will be aware on how their school and teacher still cope and

maintain in providing quality education while implementing the modular distance

learning modality.

Teachers. They will be able to focus well on how to maintain and use different

strategies and give quality education to students amidst the pandemic

Educational Leaders. They will be able to know how to respond properly on the

needs of student as a modular distance learner.

Future Researchers. They will be able to use this research as reference for future

research.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This research will be focusing on the Level of Perception in Earth and Life Science –
Self learning Module and Academic Performance of Grade 12 William Wordsworth of Pili
National High School S.Y. 2021-2022. The variables of the study are the Level of Perception
in terms of Objectives and Evalutation of Activities and the Academic Performance in Earth
and Life-Self Learning Module.

The study will be limited only for the (number ng respondents) selected Grade 12
William Wordsworth senior high school students of Pili National High School S.Y 2021-
2022 from HUMSS strand. They will be given survey questionnaire for the data gathering.
This study will focus only on the significant relationship between the level of perception in
earth and life-self learning module and the academic performance.

The independent variable pertains to the level of perception in Earth and Life

Science in terms of Objectives and Evaluation of activities. While the dependent

variable pertains to the Academic Performance in earth and life Science of Grade-12

William Wordsworth of Pili National High School.

Lastly, the one tailed horizontal arrow indicates the significant relationship

of the independent and dependent variables.
