PROJECT TITLE: A Digital Learner’s Handbook for Incoming Grade 7

PROJECT TIMEFRAME: April 2022 – April 2023

Project Summary

With the emergence of technology, learners are also expected to adapt and be the users of
the available platforms online. In this regard, the learners are not intentionally oriented on how
to practice digital netiquette. Hence, the group decided to come up with this intervention on how
to educate learners about it.

The project will be implemented for the incoming Grade 7 learners of the participating
schools. The school administration will have the preparation and finalization of the handbook:
checked, revised, evaluated, approved, and printed. The teachers will collaborate with the
parents and will provide a final handbook that will be the starter guide of the freshmen learners
about the digital world and being the netiquette of this 21 st century. The handbook will be given
at the start of the school year. An orientation will happen to explain the aims and purposes of the
handbook. The handbook is special for it has contained quarterly assessments to monitor the
learners. Every Parent-Teacher Conference (PTC), both the teachers and the parents will discuss
the outputs of their children. Their outputs every quarter will be consolidated and finalized as a
report done by the respective advisers.

This project will run the whole school year, specifically, every quarter and its estimated
cost is Php 450.00 which will be from the other school fees that the learners are paying to the
school.

At the end of the project, an evaluation will be provided by each subject teacher to see the
application and actualization of the learning the learners acquired in the handbook. SWOT
analysis will be the final report to improve, revise or change the project.
Project Background

COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the normal learning and education in our country. The
young people considered to be 21st-century learners have been put on an unstable pedestal of
learning. Their access to meaningful literacy programs, activities, and overall learning have been
forced to stop but have been reformed in new ways and methods of educating them. As a result,
the education sectors use different modalities in continuing the teaching-learning process, namely
online learning, modular learning, and blended learning. These modes have a common
denominator --- the use of digital technologies.

Our 21st-century learners are digital learners; they are always connected and active in
different social media and internet platforms. They are highly visual, experiential, and social
learners. But on the other hand, they are also prone to the negative effects of the continuous usage
of these different digital technologies. Without proper guidance from both the parents and the
teachers, the learners cannot decipher the factual information from the fake news.

This project intends to orient the incoming freshmen high school learners about the digital
world and continuously build their digital literacy skills where they can have the ability to find,
evaluate, and communicate information. Moreover, as they focus on themselves digitally, they
can improve their skills like writing, speaking, listening, and reading. Hence they can apply their
digital knowledge and skills in whatever subjects they are working on. This project is indeed
important because young people have easy access to digital technologies and have not been
monitored regularly by their parents at home. Through this project, the teachers can help the
freshmen learners to build their familiarity and awareness in the netiquette world.

Project Objectives

This project aims to:

1. increase the awareness about digital netiquette;

2. develop the responsible usage of the social media and internet platforms; and,
3. apply the acquired learnings about digital usage.
Project Methodology

The conduct of this project will be done through a collaborative approach between the
teachers and the learners. The teachers will facilitate the orientation and distribution of the
handbook to each freshman learner at the start and opening of the school year. They will be
meeting quarterly for the assessment and evaluation to monitor the progress of the learners.

This activity will help the learners become aware and informed of digital netiquette using
the handbook. As a result, they can be conscious individuals using social media platforms and
internet sources.

B. Project Deliverables
a. Resources and Materials

The resources and materials are needed to be thoroughly prepared. With the
handbook as the project, the contents are concise, easy to understand, and friendly. Generally,
the handbook will include the information about digital world, digital literacy skills, trends
of today, ways to become responsible social media users, and ways to avoid plagiarism in
their different outputs. As the learners read these contents, a quarterly assessment will be
given to them.

b. Evaluation Materials

Assessments are included already in the handbook. These are attached already so
that the learners can automatically comprehend what they have read each quarter. On the
other hand, the overall evaluation will be given by each subject teacher where the learners
will apply their acquired knowledge and skills learned in the handbook.

C. Project Risk Management

The following are the expected risk to be encountered throughout the project:

a. Participants

To make the project successful, the participants are one of the factors to look for. To
encourage the participants, the school itself should provide an orientation where it is easy to
follow and understand.

b. Learner’s Interest

Aside from the cooperation of the learners, the learners’ interest is also a factor to be
observed. Their attention and support to this project should be maintained throughout the whole
year. Their interest will be piqued as the assessments and evaluations will be relatable to them.

Monitoring and Evaluation

The school administration especially the Students Affairs Coordinator and

Academic Affairs Coordinator will maintain the communication to the advisers of the freshmen
learners. They also need to pass memos and reminders to the parents quarterly.

The teachers ought to provide two kinds of evaluation: one for the teachers to evaluate
the performance of the students and one for the students to give feedback from the implemented
project.

With these evaluations, the advisers and the administration can come up with the final
report and SWOT analysis of the project. This will be the way to strengthen what is considered
to be effective and change what is considered to be ineffective.
