1. Considering the context of the 1950s, what issues and interests were at stake in
the debate over the Rizal Bill?

It is said that Rizal’s novels have opened the eyes of the Filipino people, urging them to
perceive the conquerors’ abuses for what they are. The Church and Spanish colonization
have always been inextricably linked, and after more than three centuries of rule, Filipinos
have assimilated their beliefs and way of life into their daily existence. As a result, Rizal will
not be able to remove the Filipinos’ colonial ties without challenging the religion that they
have learned to love. At risk were the Church’s history and moral teachings, as well as the
Church’s history and moral precepts. Rizal’s writings will, without a doubt, be a substitute
for the truth, given the hidden history of the nineteenth century, and the youth will regard
the novels of Rizal to be a substitute for the truth. Misunderstandings may arise as a result
of incorrect translations and unsupervised reading of the texts, leading to erroneous
conclusions.

2. Do these issues remain pertinent in the present?

The above-mentioned concerns’ backdrop is still relevant today. Self-awareness and self-
identity have become increasingly vital in people’s lives as the times have progressed. In
today’s world, the literal interpretation of texts and history is no longer applicable. Today’s
teenagers have a voice and a choice in becoming the people who they want to be, and they
frequently exploit the bindings that limit their talents as an excuse to use the binds against
them. By exposing the government’s flaws and lack of movement, the majority of the
community, for example, attacks the government that limits the resources that the tax
payers deserve. Youth, on the other hand, are frequently exposed to news that threatens
their understanding of the truth and attacks their personal convictions in the middle of
modernity and technological growth. When children are left alone with their own devices
and access to many websites, they may discover truths that they aren’t ready for, which
might lead to their demise.
