Lab Activity 3

In the diagram of the light saber, we can notice certain lathe operations that can be done to

fabricate the model. One of which is necking, from the word itself it is a turning process where in

you create a neck-liked form between two mating materials. Necking can be done on this part of

the figure:

Another lathe operation is the taper turning, in which the diameter of a cylindrical workpiece

gradually decreases from one part to another. Taper turning can be done on this part of the figure:
End facing is also a lathe operation that can be done in the figure. It is the process of removing

metal from the end of a workpiece to produce a flat surface. It is similar to facing, the only

difference is that the end facing is done at the END of the workpiece. End facing can be done on

this part of the figure:
