I was present at a serious forest fire outside Capetown last month, affecting an area containing holiday
homes. Not only had temperatures been high for several days before, making the ground very dry, but there
was also a strong wind that day. The fire, started by a piece of glass left by a family having a picnic, could
not be contained by the fire brigade, which called in seaplanes to drop water from the sea, yet it took two
days to extinguish the flames. Since people had enough time to escape, there were no fatalities, although a
large area of forest was destroyed.

Her teeth were stunningly white, as if they had come from the bottom of the sea.

They looked unconvincingly and impossibly innocent.

The antique man with the lively azure eyes had been around for such a long time that no one could remember exactly
how long.

The horse was as swift as if it had the wings of Pegasus.

The visitors were taking all the attention.

My teacher talked ceaselessly.

The kittens in the basket were as attractive as a work of art.
