INTRODUCTION

Industrial engineering is part of the branch of engineering that is responsible for

the analysis, interpretation, understanding, design, programming and control of

production and logistics systems in order to manage, implement and establish

optimization strategies, with the aim of achieving maximum performance of the

processes of creating goods and providing services. This engineering is also

responsible for the design and improvement of management systems for the

production of large industries; we could also define it as the branch of engineering

that is responsible for the analysis, design, control and interpretation of production

systems in order to provide solutions to the needs required by the world.

DEVELOPMENT

Following the end of World War II in 1945, and as the United States of America

was among the winners of the contest, industrial growth increased in the 1960s.

Almost anyone of working age could be employed as In a well-paid way with

relative ease, when this happens in an economy, labor becomes very expensive,

so the transfer of industries to countries where labor is cheaper begins. Most

countries that had high technology such as Germany, Belgium, Italy and France

and with subsidiaries in various parts of the world since the end of the 19th

century, however it was not until the 1960s that this migration was on a large

scale. This migration generated the need to train industrial engineers in those
emerging economic nations that were basically in Latin America, these new

engineers had the technical qualities of some of the other branches of engineering,

but also had some administrative and management knowledge. which allowed

them to reach a managerial position.

Industrial engineering is currently generating endless tools such as logistics, the

supply chain, among others. With these new concepts of logistics and supply chain

management, all companies that influence the creation of products or services

from their raw material until it reaches the customer are considered "links in a large

chain." Industrial engineering is a fairly interdisciplinary career that can have a very

large field of work and its professionals can develop in various areas, Paul Wright

(1994) comments that “Although most industrial engineers are hired by

manufacturing industries, they are also you can find them in other branches, such

as hospitals, airlines, railways, shops and government agencies ”since in most

companies quality management systems, process improvements or generalized

continuous improvement can be implemented, these are some of the important

functions that has industrial engineering. Additionally, industrial engineering is an

activity that uses the scientific method to transform natural resources in an optimal

and ecological way into useful forms for human use, therefore, an engineer is a

professional who, through scientific knowledge, his creative ability and experience,

develops plans, methods and procedures to transform natural resources. The

importance of Industrial Engineering focuses on the design, improvement and

installation of integrated systems of people, materials, equipment, energy and

information for which specialized knowledge and skills in mathematics, physics

and social sciences are required along with the principles of analysis. and

engineering design to specify, predict and evaluate the results of those systems.

Another of the important occupations of industrial engineering is the study of cost,

profitability, quality, flexibility, satisfaction of demand and opportunities to make

decisions that achieve the mission or vision of a company or industry and achieve

reduce costs, optimizing at the same time the work process and the performance

of the workers. Industrial engineering is also responsible for optimizing resources,

that is, being able to save or eliminate certain undesirable aspects since it has to

do with efficiency, which refers to the need to make the most of available

resources making the expense is minimum and maximum benefits. All resources

are important, whether they are human resources, monetary resources or of any

other kind.

Engineering's fundamental point is the safety coefficient, which in a few words is

the margin of safety that the structures with which we work in production

processes or in constructions have, allows us to make the most of the potential of

the machinery and the facilities of the company.

Within the field of this engineering we have a philosophy called "Lean philosophy"

that analyzes the needs and Values that end customers want and the expectations

of investors, the design criteria that are the guidelines that are taken into account

for the conception of an idea as a project, which come from experience and

knowledge related to the subject; In this aspect, elements such as overproduction,

waiting times, transportation, excess procedures, inventory management,

movements within each phase of the process and defects are taken into account. It
minimizes the setbacks naturally present in each of these elements, thus

optimizing resources.

CONCLUSIONS

Industrial engineering is very important because it deals with several fields or

areas of a company seeking to obtain better results day after day by optimizing

them through methods that have been deepening or have been designed through

experience within the industry and seek to make this a more competitive company

resulting in the end customer is satisfied with the service offered; also this

engineering provides various knowledge, skills and philosophies that can be

exercised to a wide range of job profiles.
