THE VERB TO BE – PRESENT

• WHAT IS THE VERB “TO BE”?


El verbo to be es significa “ser” o “estar” (AM – IS – ARE).
AM – IS se usa con pronombres singulares como: I, YOU, SHE, HE, IT. En cambio, ARE
se usa con los pronombres plurales como: WE, YOU, THEY.
EXTRA INFORMATION
YOU: Tiene dos significados como “TU” en singular y “USTEDES” en plural.
• STRUCTURE
AFFIRMATIVE FORM:
Subject + Verb to be (am/ is are) + Complement
For example:
I am happy
(Yo estoy feliz)
Ana is happy
(Ana está feliz)
They are happy
(Ellos están felices)
NEGATIVE FORM:
Subject + Verb to be (am/ is are) + not + Complement
For example:
I am not happy
(Yo no estoy feliz)
Ana is not happy
(Ana no está feliz)
They are happy
(Ellos están felices)
INTERROGATIVE FORM:
Verb to be (am/ is are) + Subject + Complement?
For example:
Are you happy?
(¿Estas feliz?)
Is Ana happy?
(¿Está Ana feliz?)
Are they happy?
(¿Están ellos felices?)
