Our Brief History

Orbital Africa was founded in 2009 and incorporated in 2011. Orbital is
the leading Geospatial consulting company in Africa. From our Nairobi
headquarters, we operate in over 5 countries in Africa, providing latest
and cutting-edge survey and mapping products, services and solutions.

Online Training
Orbital also offers self-paced Online GIS Courses and
free technical sessions on specific topics on a regular
basis. Our array of training courses is geared towards
enabling clients to become high performing businesses.

Orbital offers a wide range of GIS training paths

covering topics related to GIS technology, Remote
Sensing and web mapping etc. GIS short courses on
COTs and open source GIS tools e.g. Q-GIS are also offered that focuses on utility industries, land
administration and management, NGOs etc.

Geoportal
Orbital Geoportal is a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI)
platform for disseminating open geospatial datasets
and maps within our areas of operation and to our
clients across Kenya and African region at large. The
Geoportal enables you:
- Search or download the Geospatial datasets published
by other users, organizations and public sources.
- Browse, aggregate and style data to generate maps which can be saved, downloaded or shared publicly.

- Publish tabular and text data, manage their metadata and associated documents.
- Easily upload the Geospatial datasets and various documents in several formats

Mapping
At Orbital Africa, we carry out mobile, desktop and
online mapping using latest software in the market. We
employ easy-to-use mobile data collection apps on any
Android or iOS mobile device to capture field data
seamlessly. Still, the field data collection forms can be
designed and configured in office before embarking on
data collection activity. The GIS Cloud app can collect
data while offline. The data collected is downloaded,
analysed in ArcGIS/Q-GIS and the maps and apps
produced as outputs.

We also carry out collaborative mapping where we engage the client in every stage of project execution.
The aggregation of maps and user-generated content, from a group of individuals or entities can take
several distinct forms. With the growth of technology for storing and sharing maps, collaborative maps
have become competitors to commercial services, in the case of OpenStreetMap.

Survey Equipment
Orbital Africa is a registered surveying and GIS mapping
company in Kenya and Eastern Africa region at large. We
carry out land, topographical, control and engineering
surveying services in Kenya using latest and state-of-the-
art technologies and tools such as Geodetic GNSS/RTK,
GPS, Scan Stations, Total Stations and Drones. We also
sale and lease the survey equipment at pocket-friendly
rates.

Geospatial Consultancy
We offer a wide range of Geospatial consultancy services

Engineering and Topo Surveys
Orbital Africa is a registered surveying and GIS mapping company in Kenya and Eastern Africa region
at large. We carry out land, topographical, control and engineering surveying services in Kenya using
latest and state-of-the-art technologies and tools such as Geodetic GNSS/RTK, GPS, Scan Stations, Total
Stations and Drones.

Drone and Aerial Mapping

Orbital Africa is the leading drone/UAV mapping company in Kenya and Africa region at large. We
employ several drones e.g. DJI Phantom 3, eBee SenseFly from various manufacturers across the globe.
Several software available in the market for processing drone images and creating orthomosaics and
Digital Surface models (DSMs) include Pix4D, Agisoft among others.

Orbital Africa has successfully carried out many Drone/UAV Mapping projects in Kenya and Africa
region at large. The outputs of a drone mapping project are often a 3cm resolution Orthomosaic, a
DEM, DSM and Contours among others.
