The dromedary camel

C amels live in hot, dry places like Arabia, Iran and Afghanistan. The dromedary
camel, or Arabian camel, has one big hump on its back. It has extra food in its
hump, not water.
Camels don’t run very fast, but they are very strong. They can walk fifty kilometers in
one day with a load of 270 kilos, that’s why they are so useful to people in the deserts as a means of
transportation.
In summer, their body temperature is about 34 degrees centigrade in the morning, and 40 degrees in the
afternoon. When they drink water, they can sometimes drink 100 liters at a time!
These animals live about twenty-five years. We use camel hair to make clothes, and camel’s milk is very good
for us.
