Week 10/ P 35: Unit 8: What subjects do you have today?


Lesson 1: 1, 2

I. Aims: By the end of the lesson ss will be able to: ask and answer questions
about school subjects.
II. Language focus: - Structure: A: What subjects do you have today?

- Vocabulary: Maths, Science, Art, Vietnamese, IT, Music,
English, subjects.
III. Teaching aids: students´ books, teacher´s book, radio, real objects.

Warm up * Warm up: Ask ss to say the chant Flying a little T- whole
(5’) kite. class
1. Vocabulary:

* Checking voc: Slap the board.
* Look, listen and repeat:
- Set the scene “you are going to listen to a story in
which the characters ask and answer questions about
school subjects”.
- Play the recording and ask Ss to listen to the tape.
- T asks Ss to listen and repeat in chorus two times.
- Have whole class repeat all phrases a few times to
reinforce their pronunciation.
2. Model sentence:
(10’) A: What subjects do you have today? Individual
B: I have Maths, Vietnamese and English.
- T models, get Ss in chorus.
- T write MS on the board, check intonation, meaning
and get SS to copy.
* Practice: Point and say:
- Elicit the characters in the pictures and their names.
- Have Ss look at the bubbles to understand how to
ask and answer questions about things someone likes.
Ask Ss to look at the four pictures to practice asking
(5’) and answering about school subjects. Pairwork
- Point to the first picture and model the task.

- Ask Ss to repeat chorally
- Ask Ss to repeat individually.
- Ask Ss to practice in pairs. Ask them to point the
pictures and act out the dialogues. Using the pictures
in their books.
- Call on some pairs to perform their task at the front
of the class. The rest of the class observer and give
comments.
(5’) *Work in pairs. Ask your partners what subjects Pairwork
they have today.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to ask and answer about the
actual subjects they have today.
- Invite a few pairs to perform in front of the class.

Presentation 1. Listen and tick: Individual
(10’) - Elicit the identification of the characters in the
pictures and the similarities and differences among
them.Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the
recording and tick the pictures they hear.
- Ask Ss to guess their answers
- Play the recording 2 times pupils to listen and tick
the boxes.
- Get Ss to swap their answer
- Play the recording again for pupils check their
answers.
- Give the answer:
- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension
of the listening text.

(10’) 2. Look and write: Individual
- Get Ss to identify the characters in the pictures and
what they are saying.
- Tell Ss that they are going to read and get
information to write the missing words about the
different days of the week and the subjects they have.
- Ask Ss to read silently and complete the dialogues.
- Ask Ss to trade their answers in pairs for correction.
- Ask ss to read the answers aloud to the class. The
others listen and give comments.

(10’) 3. Let’s sing: Groupwork
- Tell Ss that they are going to sing the song What day
is it today?
- Ask Ss to read each line of the lyrics.
- Play the recording all the way through.
- Ask Ss to do choral and individual repetition the
song line by line.
- Divide class into two groups to go to the front of the
class.One group sing the first four lines of a lyrics, the
other sings the last four lines. The rest of the class
sings together, clapping hands.
- Have the class sing the song again and clap their
hands.

Puzzle by writing the names of the school subjects.
- Ask pupils to look at the words SUBJECTS and the
row of boxes 1 to 5.Have pupils think about the names
of the subjects bearing one letter of the words
SUBJECTS and complete the puzzle, using one letter
per box.
- Ask them to work in pairs.
