Content & Pedagogy in the Mother Tongue


1. Advantages of Teaching Mother Tongue as a Subject for Both the Learners and
the Teacher.
Schools and university that are offering the teaching in mother tongue as a subject
promotes the strong foundation that leads to a much better understanding of the
curriculum as well as a more positive attitude towards school for both learners and the
teachers.
• Children will learn better and faster in a language they can understand which can
prevent delays in learning.
• They enjoy school more, they feel more comfortable and pupils tend to show
increased self-esteem.
• It established teacher and students’ social interaction during class.
• It promotes patriotism in every student which promotes their cultural identity.

2. Challenges or Problems Encountered in Implementing MTB-MLE


• Some problems encountered by the teachers in implementing mother tongue
base are the absence of books that are translated in mother tongue, lack of
vocabulary, discrepancy of learning materials’ content, unfamiliarity of terms in
books, the lack of teacher training and seminars.
• Both the teacher and students can have language barriers if they do not have the
same mother tongue.
• Students are over exposed to foreign language and can no longer communicate
or explain their thoughts and ideas.

3. Solutions that were Created to Address MTB-MLE Issues and Concerns


• According to the DepEd they conducted a nationwide conference of all education
practitioner and experts on March 25 2020 to tackle in improving the curriculum
and the implementation of the mother tongue-based multilingual education.

Republic act No. 10533 or the enhanced basic Education Act directs the DepEd
to adhere the principles and frameworks of MTB-MLE in its curriculum
development. Kindergarten and grades 1 to 3 learners are required to receive
instructions, teaching materials, and assessment in their respective regional or
