1. Complete these news stories using the past continous or the simple past of the verb
given. Then compare with partner.
 Flight 2001 was flying from London to New York when it suddenly encountered
turbulence and dropped 15,000 feet. The plane was carrying over 300 passengers
and crew of 17.

 While drivers were worked off the coast of Florida, they discovered a 100-year-
old shipwreck, the shipwreck contained gold bars worth $2 million, the divers
were filming life on a coral reef when they found the gold.

 A man was fined $4.000 for stealing an ambulance . The ambulance driver made
a phone call when the thief was started up the ambulance. He was speeding away
when driver saw him and called the police.

 Police got a shock when they were stoped a motorist as she was speeding on the
highway. While they were searching the trunk of her car they were found three
snakes, the driver said she took them to a pet fair.
2. Complete these sentence. Use simple past or past continous with the verb in coloumn
A, and the simple past or the past perfect with the verb in coloumn B

1. A thief broke into our house last night while my sister and I while we were
picking up a pizza for dinner.

2. I was shopping with some friends yesterday , and I lost my keys.

3. I was driving around with friends all day on Sunday, and I ran out of. Gan on the
freeway.

4. I was trying to go and visit my parents last night when I got stuck in the elevator
in their apartment building.

 Coloumn B

1. Luckily, I gave a friend a copy of them , and she had came over and let me in.

2. 2. It reached the fifth floor when it stopped , after I had been stuck for about half
an hour, someone finally started it again.

3. I guess we left the door unlocked because that's how the theif had gotten into the
house .

4. Luckily, I brought my car association card with me, so I had called them for help.

3. Group work, talk about theese qusteion.
a. Do you thik theese stories could be true? Why or why not?.
the story is not true because in my opinion it is just a mere fiction that makes
the audience entertaine.

b. Which of the stories do you find most interresting?why?.


The first story, because it is could be true also because a lot of people got
lucky because of a fish.

c. Tell about an amzing story that you have heard?.


A proud tortoise thinks he deserves to fly more than swim and is irritated by
his heavy shell. He was always annoyed when he saw the birds flying freely in the
sky. One day, the tortoise forced a goose to help him fly and the swan suggested
the tortoise to hold on to a stick. The logs are then lifted by the geese and taken to
flight. Unfortunately, the turtle's grip weakened and he fell heavily. fortunately the
turtle survived because of the existence of the shell he hated the most.
